Default changing isp, which one?

gday everyone

lookin at gettin a new internet provider as my current one is alright but because of its speed and my father getting back onto the computer and taking most of the download speed from me i dont get very good speeds when playin games, downloading or just surfing the web, same goes for him, atm its 512kb (average: 40kbsps) but slows down to 128kb during the day (usually 10kbsps max) and payin about $54 a month

basicly anything atleast 512kb or more, question is should i go unlimited or get it a certian usage as i here you get better speeds from it, i download a fair bit of stuff day in and out, constantly downloading stuff

havent really been paying attention to new isps, internet as much, any help be much appreciated
cheers

Try exetel $45 512 speed (d/l speed 55kb constant)24gb d/l with 30gb d/l offpeak
but watch out for P2P they throttle you
Optus net 1500k 21total 7+14ffpeakgb $49 d/l speed 160kb constant
try www.whirlpool.net.au broadband community
cheers

PS no such thing as unlimited
usually speed reduction

Joe, I'm with TPG and it's a 20Gb a month 512kb/s speed. We always go over our monthly limit, because we're constantly downloading movies and TV shows, afterwhich it is capped to dialup speeds. It costs us $50 a month. We are going to upgrade soon to ADSL 2+ with a 30Gb download limit for $60. They are phasing it in at the moment, but they haven't switched us over yet. The ADSL2+ has a speed of 24Mb/s so that will be damn quick. We'll probably go over our limit even quicker! The limit really depends on how much downloading you do.

as cupic says...the ultimate on DSL in Australia is over at whirlpool.net.au they know what they are talking about over there...also theres something called "Broadband Choice" where you can enter how much you want to spend, what speed etc...and it will list all the plans available to you...its very helpful..on the same site....

i ment to say unlimited as in downloads

no one is going to offer unlimited
It might be worded unlimited but its usually speed shaped or your paying excess fees on anything above your d/l limit

cheers

TPG for me, $69 a month gets me 1500/256 and 25gig of downloads and a constant 150-160kb/s download speed. Never had a single problem with them in the 3 years we've been with them too.

Go anywhere but telstra they are hopeless.
Anyone that can't get Cable ADSL in a major city is hopeless. I know people in the bush that get high speed INTERNET.

I suggest asking them if;
1) Your line is capable of Broadband2
2) There are any migrations scheduled
3) If your line is already connected to the DSLAM

If you have been with iiNet for a while you have probably already been migrated, meaning all you have to do is bundle (either Phone or VOIP) and they can sort you out. Call them (Support) on 13 22 58. Don't speak to Billing or Sales about it because frankly they are useless for these kinda queries (trust me, I should know... ;))

If they can't tell you for sure that you are 1) going to be migrated or 2) you are already connected to iiNet hardware, ask them nicely to ask a senior or put you through to another techie :P

We're stuck on ADSL1 is the only thing on offer and will be for sometime id say.

Ozemail tried the same stunt a few months back, one of the blokes I work with got a similar email from them......he gave Ozemail the big flick and churned over to Internode, never looked back.

After the double whammy of iinet taking exchanges off the ADSL2 upgrade list and dropping speed/charging extra to maintain speed (on ADSL1), alot of people switched from iinet to Internode, myself included.

Yeah i was on Ozemail (same company as iinet now anyway) I got downgraded aswell and where I am has no chance of an iinet dslam.. Churned to internode and a month after churning im on DSL2+ ...

BUT if you find their bundleing options appealing and your exchange has an iinet dslam then they are another option..
