Default The 10 Grand 2 Door

Hi All. Have decided to do a bit of a thread for Dannis rebuild on her hardtop. Some of you may remember it from Echuca09 where it came up with my car. Our plan is for it to hit the road running and registered for about the 10K mark, including buying it.................... I have a few parts in my shed which will be used up in the build.

So, here goes.

Purchase Price $8000.00
Sold Wheels $900
Sold Stainless Trims $2200
Sold Guards $100
Cost So Far = $4600

Suspension rebuilt before Echuca $200 (ball joints, pitman, inner, outers etc)
First bit of rust was the LHS Slam panel, had a ute in the back yard so it came out of that.

Thats brings us to 2 weekends ago. Engine and box removed,

as you can see the crossmember is pretty trashed.

She got bundled up and went off to the beater to get the xmember replaced, where it sits now.

I took the "new" xmember out of a v8 4door laying around my place.

Replace xmember $500.

sandblast the intake

Paint

Had a price pan laying in the shed so on it went

Paint

Clean the block

Paint

Water Pump

Paint.....

Bolt Intake Down

Water Pump On

Had a set of sweet rocker covers in the shed

Engine back together, still need to prep and paint aircom and power steer pumps this weekend coming.

Crossmember $500
Sold Extractors $100
Bought Paint $45
Total So far $5045

Great Thread Doc,
Good to see Danni working on the coupe as well.

Looks like we are both on the same budget

When are you looking at having it completed?

If you contact a paint supplier they can do the base white which is very bright white ,which all other whites are tinted from.

thanks cjf, I will go for a gas to the paint shop after work today n put the hard word on em. Hey Bearman, how goes mate ? Its gunna be hard keeping the engine bay neat as Danni has decided she needs air and steer. We fitted electric bases so she could see past the dashboard too. She seems to have a few ideas we are gunna try to on the body. Be some updates this weekend as she learns how to adjust the bands in the auto and change a auto pan filter n gasket.

Okey, As some of you would know, We got the car back from the beaters, Crossmember all good now. Coupla little bits of rust to patch up. Doubt you wanna see that ? . If ya do, let me know and I will toss some pics up too of that process. The car trailer was only 5 minutes late back and them being nice fellas , let us off. . It was a fast run home in the wet, we didnt crash into anything important at least .Ok, Sunday came and it was a slow start but we figured we better do something.....
First up was the plenum cover, it needed the impact driver right away, oh joy....

Engine bat to be stripped out, that happened pretty fast, excepth the speedo cable coz its a aircon car, the cable got trapped between the steering brace and the ducting, so we took the dash cluster out so we could bash it around a bit. Danni got to do the lower rad bolts, coz they always rusty.

Some genious painted the bay in matt black, so we used thinners to see what condition the paint under was in, it was stuffed....

Danni gets introduced to brush on paint stripper, (she will see it again before we are done).

We have to give it another hit yet, but we ran out of stripper....

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i278/Docktor1970/Danni/IMG_1601.jpg[/IMG]

Bit of a scrub and a wash off and this is where we are up to until I get more stripper. This saturday we are hoping to undercoat and maybe get some high fill on it.

Found these numbers on the lower radiator support. 15 94 99. Apparently it means ............. absolutely nothing .

hey jg65te
b4 u paint the engine bay wash all the panels down, with the di- oxidene, using steel wool to remove all traces ofpaint stripper extra care to be taken where the panels join EG: tower to skirt, skirt to firewall, skirt to rail, rad support to skirt, cos if u dont u get this problem called weeping, u can see rust building along the edges, and yr white duco starts to go brown on the joints, and if your gonna use straight tinter, add binder to it so it does not break down and go powdery in 8 months
good luck with it.

hi jg65te
only use the binder if you are using a 2k solid color DO NOT use it in a base coat colour the solid 2k color will cover panels easier than a base coat
you can still put a clear coat over it if you want to get a deeper and glossier finish

Dont use steel wool, traces of steel will be caught behind and will rust, "steel".
You should use red or grey scotch brite.

And tinter white is too bright, it should have a few drops of black and or yellow ochre.

Cheers
