hi.has anyone had joy panel beating the roof through taking the roof lining off.front of roof damaged when bonnet wasnt latched & blew up.also has taxi light hole in middle & dent by rear screen

he did the daily for $175.00 and took a couple of hours to take out and replace.... he earned his money

Spoke to a bloke up here in Hervey Bay, reckoned center console had to come out ($120 1 hr out, 1 hr in) plus $250 to do the lining, not including GST.
Read this thread and wondering if he was having a bit of a tug or what.
Does anyone know if BA's need the console out?

Unless I am mistaken the center console should not need to come out to get the lining out at all.

Maybe see if there is somewhere else to get a quote from as that doesn't seem right to me.

Sounds like hervey bay kind of thinking

If anyone charges more than $200 to do the whole lot, they are nothing but a ripoff merchant and should be badmouthed all over town.

Taking the roof lining out is easy, you just need to be careful when actually taking it out of the car and when putting it back in. I had to do it when my car was being repaired

Well i booked mine in for today actually, gotta take it in in half an hour
costin me $140 cash. I took all the interior bits off though (sunvisors, grab handles, coathooks, pillar cowlings etc) Only took 20mins

I know this is an old thread, but to get to going again (maybe), can anyone give me suggestions of a very good place to get my roof lining done...
Nothing wrong with it atm, I just want it to be black!... like the HSV and top line Bommodores.

Central QLD is a big place mate, I was stationed there years ago...
I'd hazard a guess your best bet would be just to look around town for some kind of auto upholsterer.

Hey beer baron thanks for your tips on how to get the AU headlining out and back in i was getting ready to take the screen out thank krist i found you and the forum.
But i have another problem,i need to take the seats out to be repaired but dont have a spanner that looks anything like the bolt heads that hold the seats in,anyone know where i get one of these things,it sort of has a six slotted star type slotted head.

The seats are held in by bolts that have a 5star pattern on them. The T50 bit is what you need to get them out. I also, think that some people have used a certain sized allen key although not sure what size you would need.

Wondering the same. i was going to plastic paint mine. I've had some experience with plastic paints and even after 10 years (7 sitting in the back yard) and the paint it still good.

Ended up getting the roof lining done on the ute in standard issue grey by Tony at Underwood (Qld) Auto Trimmers 0412982985. Dropped in at 6am and he took 5 minutes to rip it out then returned after work for him chuck it back in for $130. Other than him needing a can of Rexona, he did a great job and the service was top notch. Will be heading back to have him restitch a few bits on the tonneau cover and reglue some leather door inserts in the New Year.

The rear of my roof lining is coming off, but only that part.

Was thinking of gluing it back up or even using a row of staples, as I can't really be bothered taking it completely out.

It's fairly easy to remove, but you do need very clean hands or good gloves.

The AU/BA linings aren't as bad as the EA-ED ones though I think.

Mr H's cost $140 - with handles etc removed by him (if that's the one he referred to earlier).

I had mine done recently $170 - they come to you. Took about an hour from the time he arrived to the time he left.

Just a tip for those out there that do want to do this (great write up btw) instead of using ya fingers to get the old foam / glue off by rubbing it save yourself a lot of time & use a half sheet of maroon / green / black scotch brite pad it rips through it a lot quicker & easier & when ya done just bit it with the glue residue..

Not too much wrong with your technique, you did everything right until you used hobby glue.
You did not get air bubbles, you got pockets were the glue did not hold. You need commercial grade contact adhesive. Bought in 20l drums for about $80.
Sprayed on with a paint air gun with 2.0mm nozzle.

The glue in the spray cans is thinned down and in my experience i have fixed many jobs done with what i refer to as hobby contact adhesive.

I could glue a thick rug to your roof and you will struggle to pull it off without destroying it.
It has a high moisture and heat resistance which is what you need on your headlining. I use 3/4 of a spray pot to glue a BA headlining on. Whole job should take 1 to 1.5 hours refitted.
