No I think they're Orion Proto's (full body & drive train). There have been some posts here which indicate Ford have built a batch of them early this year for testing.

I'm not saying these aren't orion pics but i was thinking the same. Seems a little early for the camo mules

Overall I'm pretty happy with what I have seen so far of Orion , even though its not much.

I remember when I first saw the AU (or EA186 or whatever it was called then) shots with the grille etc still hidden, even with all the covering up I already knew something was seriously wrong.

No offence for the AU fans out there, and I appreciated where Ford were trying to go with the AU, but I knew it was too different for the time and it wouldnt work out. But with Orion, I can already see they are on the right track.

Incidently, anyone have those early AU photos ?

I havent seen many bagging the car on LS1.com.au. No more so than here, anyway. It is only a mule afterall, and I am beginning to agree with other posters here in that these cars might be 'bitzas' made up of BA parts and Orion parts purely for testing.

Rear lights appear to resemble current-gen Audi A6,with the profile (beltline, doorhandles) apeing a Yaris; and personally I like the Yaris.

I sure hope it hasn't. Ford Aus really needs to get fuel economy right this generation to win back some some of the market.

It already class leading in REAL WORLD conditions. they just dont advertise it. There wasa wheels/motor test recently and the worst performer from memory was the one that is perceived to have the best fuel economy hint... its the one that rhymes with toy motor delorean ....

So you can tell that from the spy shots. The flares look very similar to the VE ones, maybe slightly less, but until they are seen in an overall context its pretty hard to tell. Personally I think the VE flares look good, the problem is more that things like the bumpers don't intergrate into them well, hence it makes them look overdone. If they had used bumpers more like the M5 which extend out into the flares it would have looked very good.

Same Doorhandles that Holden and Mitsubishi are both using, they look bloody stupid, why is Ford wasting their time and following the trend?

Really ? I think the VE flares look awful, and was dreading that becoming a trend with Aussie cars. Hopefully the Orion is more refined in this area.

Yep Commodore's Wheels Arches look like a caricature. They are way out of proportion with the other styling cues in the car.

I'm sure the Falcon will be much better styled in that particular area.

I'll second that. The VE's glasshouse/mid section is good looking. The front is too yesterday, and the rear looks like the back end of a fly.

Its good to hear the positive news from those who've seen the real thing.

First things first, Ford are not wasting their time and secondly, it's hardly a new trend. Grab handles are easier to use than the older "lift up" variety, when jumping out of a Mondeo into a Falcon, you definately notice the awkardness of the old type of handles.

** (Note to self) "stop talking about doorhandles, people will think you're weird. They will also start calling you Colin for some reason"

Everyone needs to chill out and stop worrying. If they stuff up this then its just about game over.

It would be fair to say that Orion is even more important than the BA upgrade; it wont be stuffed up.

The only time we should be paying attention to spy shots is about ~6 months out from launch, when the cars will have to be representative. At the moment they could be anything.
