19 inch rims

How many people here have 19's on their cars? I saw in another thread that the 19's arent good over 100km/h, would that just be the tyres, or is that becuase of the size? Just wondering for future reference so I know what size to get (I do a fair deal of highway km's).

yeah, your post was the one I saw it in. After you said that i didnt wanna go out an buy 19's only to have the same problem.

lol, not good over 100kays what a joke, if anything the bigger wheel size you go the more top end you will have because of the higher gearing (in theory)

It comes down to the geometery of the cars' suspension, durablitly of the components that make it work and the weight of the wheel not the size of the wheel itself imo.

haha, yeah I meant traction was a problem under 100kms. :hihi:

They seem fine at the short bursts I have had over 100 though.

Given plenty of cars come from the factory with 19"s, i'm sure theres no inherent problem with them. I'd say as long as you buy a good quality wheel that isn't too heavy, you wouldn't have any probs.

The only problem is if you hit a decent pothole or broken edge of the road.

The lower the profile tyre the more susceptible to damage is the rim itself.

I'm thinking getting some 17" rims in May, I heard over 17" and tire prices hit the roof?

I mean buying tires for 19" rim would cost and arm and a leg, would'nt it??

18"s are cheap as 17's these days, the problem is shops stock what cars need, so most bmw's run a 18 or 19 these days and other cars are doing the same, 17 are still the standard ford/ holden option but slowly 18's are being used, in the usa 19 and 20 are common and 24 and 26 are becomming the rage. i think you can get a better range of performance tyres in 18-19 these days

bloody oath the tyres on a gt 18 inch cost 525 dollars each rec rtl hate to think what the 19s would cost

i have 19s on my car and the ride/handling i have found to be better than when it had the factory 18s on it. tyres are a little more expensive than 17"s, but the $525 that gtfpv has said is for the factory fitted dunlops, and they are up the very high end of the scale. you can buy good 18" tyres for under $200 now and 19"s for a bit over $200. and for that size, i dont think there is such a thing as a "bad" 18 or 19" tyre. they are all V or Z rated. its not like the "cheap" tyres are the 'bob jane all rounder' or 'Kmart barrum special'!

Ah, i have 17" rims and im still getting used to the fact that I have them! I had 15's on the EF and just wasnt interested in upgrading them enough to actually do it. No point spending money on the car.

I shudder to think how much its going to cost me when it comes time to get new tyres for my 17's, but thats only because im always seeing other things i want lol (new guitar for $3k is the latest 'i must have!'). 17" used to be the stuff yuod dream about having on your car, now it seems theyre almost standard.

pheeeeuuuwwww iwas worried about tyres thought id have to save $40 / wk to have tyres on the car. thank god you can get some for around $200 each.

I've got 19s with Nankang tyres on my XR6T, had them for about 18 months with no probs at speeds well in excess of 100km/h (private road of course! :nutsycuck ). I think the tyres are worth about $250 ea to replace, if you want Dunlop SP9000 like the originals on the factory 18s or 19s they are about $800 ea though I recall Aussie Pete mentioning at one stage where he got some closer to the $550 mark.

Yeah, I had 2 sets of 19s on the AU and 1 set on the BA so far and I've had no issues with them.
