Default AU to XR6 conversion Front end

Hey to all,

im just wondering if anyone out there has done a front end conversion from an AU front to the XR6 front end? i mean changine the bumper, the lights and if so the mountings?

Im really keen to do this mod and have seen a whole XR6 front end assembly with lights bolts everything on ebay for about $1000... can it be done without changing the bonnet or side fenders?

Cheers guys

If your AU is an AU1 then the bonnet is fine, AU2/3 needs the low series AU1 bonnet.
Guards are the same for all models and dont need to be changed.

hey man.. i am in the process of doing it myself... ust waiting for my spray painter to pull his finger out and start painting then i can finish it...
i went and got XR50 front bar off AWC $550.... headlights $400 +...driving lights through AWC $100 indicator lenses off ford... $100 + ... then the pain in the *** of fitting! LOL.. so if you could pick up your WHOLE set up for $1000 i reckon that is ok...

i am 98% sure that everything is BOLT on also.... so i will let ya know when it comes to sticking the front bar on.

cheers mate

The only XR6 front I have seen on ebay is a BA one, which will NOT fit on the AU (OK, it will, but not easily).

If you do actually have an AU one, then follow the instructions on AUFalcon . com for removal of the standard front bar, and then switch to the XR front bar for installation (which is reverse of removal of the XR bar). The only difference is 2 additional 10mm bolts on each side of the XR bar - if you read the tech article, you'll know what I mean.

I've seen the AU XR fronts on ebay too, the series 1 type. There was a black one and a red one on there a few weeks ago.

my ute is a 2000 AU XL... im not sure if its a series 1 or not.. how can i tell... otherwise if it isnt a series 1 i need to change the bonnet??

All AU utes have the "series 1" bonnet.

IMHO I believed the SerI bonnet looks better. The earliest grills left something to be desired, but those headlights!! I love the look and style of the XR Quad lights, how could Ford have dropped the theme for the BAXR ing_sm . I will be hanging onto mine! :

Yep , the quad light setup on the AU XR's is a killer , looks awesome and has that modern look to it , and will for a long time to come to i think , spcially whith the lowline bonnet fornt too , very modern even for a design that is old too i think. I remember years back when i first saw a Jaguar with the quad light setup i fell in love with the look of them , the AU XR's reminded me so much of the look of the front end of the old Jags , very nice , and still looking modern. , will keep my AU till its dead i think ;)

Check it out on eBay.

You can have the lot for $900. Front bar, lights, flashers/indicators.

Cheers

Putting an XR front bar on, does it hang lower the door frame? So would it be a good idea to put some side skirts on and a lip kit on the back bumper?

Depends. I put the series 2 XR bar (without the extra pods) on my wagon, and it looked fine with no skirts etc. I now have the skirts, and they are lower than the bar (have to get that Pursuit lip off Adam one of these days).

No you need the loom for the XR lights.

Oh and after you do the front XR conversion, don't forget to put XR8 / Tickford badges on. Plus the Tickford Enhancements plate with any options under the bonnet. It'll be a genuine 220kW XR8 then.

I have an XR front bar that I fitted up to my Ghia.

Ghia's gone but I swapped some of the pins within the connectors and possibly made up a small loom - I can't remember exactly why (or if I actually did). Perhaps it was for the parking lights...

the standard au headlight loom can be modified for xr lights. the xr has 2 plates that bolt into the guards for support. there are 2 or 4 holes that need to be drilled on non xr models, 2 for the bumper, and 2 for the headlight bracket. a nutsert kit will be beneficial when doing this. I judt did this to mine and these are the only real difference. the bumper support plastic needs to be trimmed for the headlights. sorry, no pics, but if you need them, pm me and ill send you contact details so I can share pics.
