Default BA brakes onto AU...

as the title suggests, will some BA XR6 front brakes be a straight swap conversion onto my AU?

that being said, are those brakes are bigger, and would it be a worthwhile coversion?

They should fit straight on. Why not just get the ones the FTG was selling.

ohhh its like that. They should fit, if the brake upgrade for FTG fits from Au2 to BF the XR shouldn't have a problem.

Yes they do fit HLC i got a set cheap for mine also, its not just the 15mm bigger its the pad that makes the differance as the caliper is bigger so the pad is bigger then the AU2 setup.

Convert it over, find a person wrecking one in the trading post and grab the whole lot.

I've thought about it, but would cost at least a grand, so I'm just going to stick with my slotted rotors and decent pads (for now at least). Just for future reference though, what's needed, is it the calipers, stub axles, what else? Easiest option would be to get some T1 brakes, but I don't like my chances of finding any.

Give it up! With all the T gear on your steed, I'm sure you'll find some! LOL!

Dont quote me on this but think that you can just get the T-series Stub Axles and then put eh Series 2 brakes on your car, sit them were the standard brakes sit. I have been told that the T-series Calipers and the Series 2 calipers are the same just the the T is larger.

I got a full set of BA Turbo callipers, pads, & discs (front and rear) for $60. Just need the other bits to do the upgrade on my AU1 as well.

Any difference between the BA XR and say XT/Futura brakes? What parts will I need, just calipers, discs & pads I presume.

According to the DBA site, they are all the same. BF brakes may be bigger again, and Territory certainly are, and all will bolt straight up to AU2 onwards, as long as you replace both discs and callipers at the same time, and of course, pads. The size difference in the front callipers is enormous (compared to AU1 anyway). Info from the DBA site in italics:

BA 4.0L DOHC XT, Futura, XR6 4.0L, XR6T 4.0L Turbo, XR8 5.4L V8 4V
Fairmont + Ghia 2002 - on
Front Vented 298mm DBA Part No 504
Rear Solid 303mm DBA Part No 505

If you can get the Premium Front brakes from a GT, Pursuit etc, they are 325mm vented discs. Rears are the same as above.

The BF range Fairmont, Fairlane and the XR's got the upgrade to the larger Territory brakes

Front 322mm Vented
Rear 328mm Vented
Which is a big improvement on the old ones.Just ask Vic!!! Not sure if they put the larger brakes across the whole range including the XT's.

Compared to the 287mm Front and rear on AU1 & 2, the BA brakes are a good upgrade, and the calliper size alone has to be seen to be believed.

I can assure you ... the brakes on the Territory are bloody good indeed (especially when towing) ... EBD/ABS/ETC really help out as well.

They make my AUII with slotted rotors feel like crap.

Still saving for the Mustang/Sumitomo upgrade (330mm 4-piston goodness) for the front of the ute.

It might be cheaper, and just as effective, to get a set of Terry brakes for the Ute - they bolt straight up (disc, pads & calipers)

Dont waste your money on BA brakes, for a very small extra, you can get the BF XR8 brakes and they bolt straight on, no mods to AU2/3 models, the difference in braking performance is huge.

FTG $650 for slotted front discs, PBR2 caliper and ford pads, even brake line, new in box.
Very reasonable price, just as good as the factory premium.
Only thing i would do is fit braided steel lines.

These are pics of the ones ive fitted, they are the solid discs, they now sell them with slotted RDA rotors.

Well if your getting brakes for $100 are they new?
With this kit, you will need 17" minimum.
$650 for the fronts, and $650 for the rears for sedans, utes will require bigger backing plates so that is $250 extra.

I've wondered about that as well. I will only know once I try, and that won't be until I get uprights, lower control arm and hub - maybe in a month or so.

Phil - for $60, I can't complain and I don't consider any brake upgrade on an AU1 to be a waste of money considering that Flintstone style brakes would work better than the stock AU1 brakes! LOL.

So just to clarify, to put BF XR8 brakes on a stocko AU2, what exactly do you need?

- Calipers
- Rotors
- Pads

Anything else? ABS hooks up OK?
