Speak for yourself mate, as I'm 40 and it's the car that I've always aspired to own, I still have my old rust bucket of an XW ( in your words) which by the way was my first car, sitting in the shed.

My two young boys, 6yr's and 2 years of age, know exactly what the XW is and will know and grow up admiring and wanting a GTHO just as I did.

Just turning 40 here, grew up plastering my school files with pics of XY's, in particular Chris Christou's 'real men smoke rubber' and used to scrawl XY 351 GT HO phase 3 on my rulers lol.
Always watched the prices, 25k was out of my budget back then and thought they'd stay that price for ever
Aiming to own one before I die, even a SA or replica, probably in retirement.
Great to see this one come through unscathed, interested to see what it goes for.

Still heaps of younger guys loving these things they just don't have the cash yet to buy.

I'm 32 just finished restoring one myself as I couldn't afford one already done. Love the old rust buckets

Its "real me smoke eagers". I know I bought a set when they first came out in 1983/1984.
Before the bridgestone eager 60 and 50 series and the Yokahama 352 (steel belted radials), it was textile radial T/A.

Ditto - I know 4 people close to me all under 35 that own XY's. The passion will never die for them. It's just one of those cars.

Mine definitely said rubber, if only I'd spent more time paying attention in class than staring at it and drawing burnouts on my papers
Bought my first set of 352's in nineteen dickety' five, nice to reminisce

There are 17 days until the end of the auction. Why would you bother bidding yet?

Hmmm I visited a mate today that could buy this etc and the first thing he said was is it a Lloyds advertised auction.

He advised it most likely won't be sold for whatever the highest bid is as they are rogues and it will be passed in and then they will put it up for a real auction with that bid as the starter.

Now $420k

I guess we will see in 19 days and if it comes up again

So Jeff Thompson sold this car in 1988 for $23k to the current owner, and they're now expecting it to fetch over $1M:

That's life mate, sometimes you get lucky.
A guy I know invested $100K into a local craft beer venture 5 years ago. It just got bought out by a large German company and he pocketed well over $1M. It happens.

im pretty sure JB, a former owner, and well known person in the world of gt falcons, bought the car from Jeff Thompson. I vividly recall a picture of JB shaking hands with Thommo went he bought the car from him. Its had at least 1 owner since Joe sold it....im not sure what story is being put forward in the promotion of the car, but if it says the current owner bought it from Thommo then that's wrong....im pretty sure this ph3 originally never had a rear spoiler fitted also but I may be getting it mixed up with an electric blue ph3 JB once owned and now resides in WA.

I’m over 50 and I know what these cars are. Overhyped old rust buckets.

No way I’d pay anything like that for any 70’s era Falcon. They have never appealed to me.

To each their own I suppose.

Sounds like a bit of smoke and mirrors with the marketing..................I think there must have been a supply issue with rear spoilers so a few cars did not originally get them. Obviously not a popular delete option with owners these days so most have since been fitted with the correct 71-73 Mustang spoiler.

Cheers Mick

Good on your friend for making a successful punt into the craft beer world - hope he's continuing to do well.

That buyer must have deep pockets. Buyer C28948 was successful bidder on XY GT for $250,000, 1970 XY Falcon Tow Ute for $162,000 and 198 Cosworth Sierra for $60,000.

Strange, my screen agrees with you about the Cosworth Sierra but says for the other two....
