i remember reading this when it was 'news'. i think the only way this would take of in the passenger car range would be to fit a tyre around it so it looked normal.
it is however a good idea when you look at military capabilities and other government uses. |

Could you imagine the price for a set of those... still its a step forward for the better once all of the R&D work has been conducted and the product is either upto or exceeding todays tyre capabilities in terms of performance and durability etc.

i believe the metal spokes are the internal part of the wheel (replacing the air) and is wrapped in conventional rubber... think about it, Michelin is a rubber company, they're not going to deal themselves out of business.
and according to the article both verticle and lateral support is better than normal tyres so performance will be increased... |

what we need to be looking at for the future of tyres is to irradicate rubber altogether and i believe that one day (a very long time from now) this will happen. think about how many tyres world wide are thrown out each and every day. its a ****in lot....probably millions every day. where do they all go? i dont think they all get recycled into something else.
