Default Headlights acting weird

Hi all. Au xr8 ute. If I put my low beams on, all 4 lights light up very dimly. Throwing out bugger all light and I have a very dim high beam symbol in the speedo. If I hit the high beams I have just the two inner lights at full strength, no outside lights and a high beam indicator in the speedo. All the hitting of the dash, screwing around with the stalk and switch on the dash made no difference. I've also swapped relays and checked earths. This problem will randomly appear and disappear, sometimes I hear a click while driving and suddenly I can see where I'm going.

A couple of months ago the interior lights wouldn't turn off and I couldn't lock the car. The interior lights would only turn off if the car was in reverse (auto). I assumed it was a door lock cylinder and refused to replace it so I just took all the globes out and a few weeks later tried to lock the car and it had fixed itself.
I think these 2 could be related

Could I have a rooted Bem, and can I use an i6 one or do I need an xr8 ute one?

Hi. have a good look at the wiring on the back of the headlights, it sounds like the outer lights have a problem with their earths. Cheers MD
