When i moved to my Wifes town of Maitland on the Yorke Peninsula way back in December 1991 there were 4 car dealers, Rex Toop's Maitland Motors Holden Dealership, Richard Gunning's, Gunning Ford Dealership, Rod Nixon's Yorke Valley Motors Nissan Dealership and Bob Landts Mitsubishi Dealership.
Rex Toops was the longest serving Holden Dealer in Australia when he retired and closed down in 2002.

Today there is only 1 Dealership in Town, Peninsula Toyota which is owned and operated by the Gunning family who closed down their Ford Dealership to make way for Toyota around 10 years ago.
Gunnings also sell Toyota, Nissan Kia and Isuzu from their Kadina premisis which too was a former Ford Dealership.

And this is the way it's done, Toyota as primary franchise plus the others for good measure,
choices and no bad blood, a winning combination...and good on them.

Agreed, only problem is, this family company was solely a Ford dealer 27 years ago, today they dont sell Ford at all.

I'll never forget way back in 94 when the EF was released, my inlaws bought one of the first to arrive on the Peninsula from Gunnings, a Cardinal Red GLi.
It was around the time of my Wifes Deb ball and they let us take it to Kadina to get her hair done for the special occasion, as an 18yr old coming from an XD it was an experience in advancement and refinement.

Funny you should say that, I bought that very same car in 2004 but series 2,
only thing I bought extra was XR6 wheels (no wing) dealer was absolutely
stunned at how it changed the look of the car.

Also had an Everglade EB II at that time with 50K on it, I always felt the EB
handled better due to different roll centre on the rear, they did something in
EF that unsettled the rear mid corner.

Getting a bit OT now, but at the final GP in Adelaide someone asked DJ which of all the Falcons he'd like to drive back home to QLD in if he had to, his answer was the EB.
Not sure if the reference was to road cars or his race cars though.

After spending a few days in Sydneys CBD, a few things are clear.

-No hybrid version of the Mondeo is a huge mistake, Camry Hybrids ave all but taken over the Taxi market. At one point i sware i saw 15 brand new Camrys in one spot. While margin would be slim, having sales numbers would be beneficial.

-Looks like there is a need to focus on small SUV's and Hatches, perhaps adjust the price point.

-Mustangs surely are popular, but seimg them used for daily commutes its wonderful.

GM will go into bankruptcy again going after numbers. Idiots didn't learn the first time that it's unsustainable.

Ford has a further supply issue with Rangers. Something about the factory changing again??

Ranger figures could be down the next few months.

Mucking your buyers around and making them wait never normally ends well.
While some customers will wait, I'm sure some will pull out and go elsewhere.

Remember, there's only limited cargo space pre-booked on ships

Are they not seven seaters...? Funny thing is Kluger Grande AWD is on special around $65K drive away while petrol only but it has always been that way...and we're half way through December and no Endura road tests at all. Carsales lists Endura Titanium AWD at $75,964 d/a.

Regarding those posts above from when the EBII was new, yep, they were great cars and our parents too gave us the keys in country WA. Did one road trip from the midwest all the way to Augusta and back, I remember the girlfriend lighting up the tyres in the North Point carpark, haha

The Falcon V8 returned to Bathurst:

Going to show that to the young one.

Agree, and seeing Toyota extending the hybrid to the RAV4, the Yaris, the CH-R and maybe Kluger in near future will see them continue to dominate.

We will wait & wait till it gets here, but I'm picking the Titanium will be better specked than the Grande

A quick Read show feature Endura will have over Kluger
https://www.asburyauto.com/compare/2...hlander/160823

Theres many people wouldn't even look to compare, but on paper Endura should handle a lot better.

Endura much like the Everest will not get the sales deserved unless Ford picks it game up here in marketing/sales attitudes/servicing no matter the feature/s above its Japanese/Korean competitors.

a similar criticism when Everest launched...

Of course it will sell in small numbers, possibly for quite a few years, but I doubt Ford care too much about vfacts numbers and where it ranks. They would have their own internal numbers to meet, and as long as it meets them, that's all that matters. Of course that's not to say they should be content. Obviously they would want to sell as much as they can.

They need this car though. there is a massive gap in their lineup between escape and Everest and it should have been filled years ago, but they can't always help the timing of how things go down.

I think this is overrated. i'd be surprised if marketing via tv/social media etc would have any measurable impact on sales. Marketing can be useful to promote 'special offers' etc, which is the way most manufacturers use this medium, but to promote an actual model, rarely is this influential in people's decision making.

Most people when looking to buy cars either jump on the internet and search or jump in the car and do a bit of leg work.

Demand for Wildtraks is skyhigh atm.

When you compare it's pricing and equipment levels against it's competition it's not. It compares against them quite well.

In saying that I don't expect Ford are expecting a huge amount of sales.

Not really. Its already out of date, especially the engine. Whats so great about it? The features are pretty standard. I fail to see the fuss.

Well they should care, they are losing market share and its affecting dealers greatly. I cant wait to see their December number as there's been a supply issue with Ranger which may see them below Holden again...

They are quickly becoming the Rangerstang motor company.

Most people when looking to buy cars either jump on the internet and search or jump in the car and do a bit of leg work.
Tell that to Coke/RedBull/Maccas/Tag/Dior/Gucci and all those "name" brands that keep marketing.......Ford is a name brand right but its not thought of much by Mr Mrs Consumer imo.
Its not about just marketing special offers its about branding and getting it in peoples heads.
Here's my marketing research just amongst our circle of friends/relos, not 1 buys a Ford product but me.
25yrs married none of my bro/sis inlaws (have quite a few) have bought a Ford product.
It doesn't come into their mind/internet searchs/jump in the car to dealer they won't be looking at a Ford.

So tell me, currently Ranger sells to Tradies/Fed and local Govcos/Small Business and the likes, love to know its % of Private Sales but I'm guessing not high.
Next their No2 seller is a performance car Mustang.
In the age of people mover/SUV small and big dominance sales Ford if you were to rank them 1-10 where are they ?
The rest of the range, phhhht making up numbers - not really competing at the high end of rankings but thats OK because the small sales they do achieve is profitable. Great while it can last.
Well why wouldn't you wish to be even more profitable and raise your market share for IF you keep sitting back thinking less numbers good margins is good enough before you know it the opposition keeps expanding its range/s and will eat into your low profitable sales even more

So ok don't do any more marketing leave as is.
Good luck to Endura it needs it.
