It's funny trying to recall the actual 'first band you saw live'.
As a teenager we used to go to a place called Snoopy's Hollow in Brisbane for dances.(1960s)
We also used to sneak in to DB's (De Brazil) in town and The Roo on the Roof in Capalaba.
There was always different bands playing but I'm blowed if I know the name of the first band I saw. I saw plenty of them though.

I'm very grateful I got the chance to see Motorhead.
Lemmy wasn't looking the best but the show was still awesome.

I had 200 bands going through my head when I wrote that list, I could of added all of them but put what I wanted to know,had members here seen any of these bands live,I put the Purple Hearts in, ( Hadly and Lloyd's band ) but the band was the Coloured Balls,formed in 1972 disbanded 1974.

I've got their first LP somewhere " Ball Power ", no Hadly is mentioned in any band line up?, but that means nothing really,but they did form the Purple Hearts together,after Hadlys band " the Impacts " split up.
I always will call it Lobby Lloyd's band,and they formed after Lobby split from " the Aztecs " ,he also played with " Rose Tattoo " but cant name every band, I would of liked to of put Brisbane 70’s band ” Railroad Gin"

Just you tubed Lobby loyde, watched one of his last concerts with his mates. Guess i missed out on a lot by growing up in NZ.. Wish there were more bands like this around.

Yep all the pub band scene just sort of dropped away, bit by bit, it was more than the music though, it was the atmosphere of the times,the drink driving laws really screwed it for pubs,the 70's were the best I think, I could catch ColdChisel at the Comb an Cutter Black town, then hit the Family Inn Rydalmere, and catch Split Enz then off to another pub for another band,even AC/DC were a pub band.

It was very cool times,and you would not believe the cars, way too cool.

My brother lived there in those times, he pretty much described it as you did. Reckoned you cauld catch AC/DC at his local on a Tuesday night. He lived all over so not sure where abouts. One thing is we had unreal car scene in Queen st (Auckland) back then, bands not so much you lot got all our good ones haha. Queen st used to be lined with1940/ 50/60/70s American V8s

See if you can get a copy/YouTube of Cold Chisels " Last Stand " its an hour and half doco/film,that will involve you in the atmosphere of it all.

You have to realise that every generation has/makes its own mark on the place you live,its like this website,every time the Moderators kick my **** and ban me ( once ) so far I forget they are still wet behind the ears school kids " hahaha " not all but some,and I forget that,I keep thinking I'm talking to folk who come through my era,and I forget I'm not.

Sure we all love cars whether Ford or not, and we all listen to music when we drive our cars.
But the younger ones here have been brought up without live pub music,and fighting your way out of a bar!..that's gone, for good.
We have these politically correct dudes who haven't and never will earn their stripes, vomiting on ya girlfriend and punching on were all par for the course, it was fun,it was part of growing up, young folk now stagnate from within!

Give me a bloke who can rip a motor down in his backyard on Saturday and drive it to work Monday, because he "has to" out of the necessity of keeping his job!

Nowadays, men of today phone in sick because," I broke my nail and its sore ",..lol, get the picture!
Nowadays, as I said in another thread Bobs your Uncle which is an old saying, now Bobs your Auntie!..lol..hahaha.

Haha i do know the atmosphere and that life, lived and loved it, we did had it here just on not so large a scale.
Certain songs/bands take me right back to a time/place or event good or bad. Most now have there head buried in there phone or facebook worrying what every one else thinks. glad i was young then, and yep that was me rebuilding engines and cars in driveway haha...

It's not a dig just a correction of music history.
Mick formed The Coloured Balls in Brisbane in '71, Lobby joined in as lead guitar. The band wanted to move to Melbourne in '72 (I think) but Mick didn't want to go so Lobby took over as the lead man in the band.
It's something many hardened Lobby fans don't know.

No alls good, I like to know all this stuff, I saw David Bowie live at Lang Park Brisbane maybe 1978 ish, the warm up band was The Angels, Bowie had two massive speaker stacks either side of stage, a good 40-50 foot high, Doc Neeson was on top and jumped down to the stage ,a bit like Ted Nugent without the hair or guitar!..lol.

Angels blew Bowie away, but Bowie's "Station to Station" just floating the sound between speaker stacks was one of the best bits of mixing I have seen/heard.

I really miss them days!
