Default How to shorten/create a link in signatrue.

G'day eveyone,

Just wanted to know, how do people shorten down/create a link to their build page/for sale/link to their website? Sure I have mine at the bottom if my signature but its miles long. Other users like KR1STO, have a a nice little blue (some have larger & different text & colours) but I have no idea how to do it.

Im tired of:

Blue Beast's Red (& silver) Beast: http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11315475

And I'm after:

Blue Beast's new Red (& silver) Beast

Is there a trick to doing it, or a website that can create it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
BBII

That's an easy one.

Type the phrase you want for the link and then select the text using your mouse so it is highlighted.
Then click on the little weblink symbol (picture of the globe with a link across it) and type in (or paste in) the URL.

Done.

Cheers
Russ

Easiest way to do it is to use the formatting tools same as on the reply to post page. for example

Blue Beast's new Red (& silver) Beast

Click the world image with the paperclip looking thing and type it in.

edit: Russ beat me to it by not even a minute

What am I doing wrong? When I do this the highlighted word(s) just get replaced with the url link. How do I get the word to be blue (the link)?

Write the word you want to use as the link, highlight it, click the world icon, type the word in & press ok, paste the link in & press ok. Job done.

edit - just did it, you don't need to re-type, just press ok on the first window, paste your URL into the second one. Job done.

I highlight the word, click on the weblink symbol, the screen jumps a bit and says in the top to click here, which I do. I then paste the link in there, the screen jumps a bit again and the word is replaced by the url link.
I've also tried just pasting the highlighted word with the url, but that has the same result. Suspect I'm pasting the link incorrectly.
Edit: Just saw Scotts post, I'll try that.

just a note of caution, as i worked at a highly secure military facility for many years hyper links of all sorts.

short links open a vast door to the realm of the bad guys. no iff ands or butts. period.

always use caution especially with short links.

to be safe, always, right click, copy link location, open a new browser tab, paste the link location into the new tab browser bar and examine what you have. is it an actual link or some sort of executable.

if it looks like a valid link, let your browser try to find it. if it gives you nonsense, it was malicious and will give you nonsense.

if it looks like nonsense to begin with trash it.

in your sphere, there are site you can locate to test hyper links. look for them, book mark them and use them.

better safe that sorry

Hi Russ,

There is no weblink symbol in the "edit signature" box, so I'm not sure how I can put a link to my build page as part of my signature???

Cheers,
Paul

No - it is not available to all user groups since we did the upgrade. This is intentional as these have been misused in the past.

Russ, I understand. Maybe as a moderator you could change my signature to be my link to my build page if I'm not able to to it myself.

Cheers, Paul
