Hi!
Has anyone here tried this before? I'm just embarking on my project. Research has been done to make sure it's legal. Engineer has been consulted. Now comes the tricky bit.... |

Why a rover v8? Do you want it to be period specific? a late model focus engine option would leave a rover engine for dead except for the exhaust note.

Ha ha ha. Only the poms I've been talking to love the Rover. I chose it because
1) I want a V8. 2) I want carbs - not EFI. It's more of a 'period' build. 3) Under the LA2 NCOP certification 3.6L is as large as I can go. So that left the Rover 3.5, Jaguar 3.2, Daimler 2.5 or early Toyota 3.5 V8's. 4) The Daimler 2.5 & Toyota 3.5 are as rare as rocking horse poop, the Jag is expensive and wide. 4) The Rover isn't as much a lemon as many think - it was just not as powerful as it's competitors of the day, mostly because of it's small capacity. It's not much heavier than the cast 4cyl, double the HP, and within the legal guidelines. ..so that's why the Rover  I've got a 10.5:1 compression block that I'll build as blueprinted, balanced, with a decent cam, tickled heads, electronic dizzy, decent manifold and carb. Whatever it makes HP wise is fine - it'll be basic, sound good and be street legal.

Go for it! The rover v8 is a great little under-rated engine. The original Buick-Oldsmobile engine was a very innovative in the Olds Jetfire (turbo) in early sixties.
Unfortunately I'd have thought the Poms would be your best source of info for this swap? |

Sounds like an awesome project. There's an old top gear special where they modified the engine in a Rover 3500....it revved like hell and sounded awesome. It certainly changed my opinion of them. Will be watching with interest.

Rover V8 - same basic engine as in MGB GTV8 .There are a few mods that can be done to make them really perform. Try the MG boys for more information. Leyland 4.4 ??? Maybe -who would know !!
