Default 2L cortina engine to MK2 escort

G'day i just bought a couple MK2 escorts which are a 1.6 auto, wanting to put a 2L manual in it, at the local wreckers they had a 2L te cortina engine, for $300 will this bolt straight in?
they also had a 2L man escort whole car, missing the carby and air filter, however they think the engine is blown/broken crank and are asking $800 for the car, i think thats a bit steep as its engine is buggered , any suggestions on what i should do, or any other ideas?

Cortina 2L sump is different to the 2L escort.

Did you have the space to buy both the 2L escort and the cortina motor, do the conversion and wreck the rest?

Sump is a little to far forward , you can either notch it or trim the back edge of the front assy 10mm and add some metal , best check which one is acceptable in your state . otherwise its pretty much drop and fit , although the 1600 is a zippier motor and revs way harder ( last one used to see 8k often) and the added weight tends to mean front springs and your steering a land barge

Sump and gearbox will bolt straight up - same engine in escort and cortina.

You have the added benefit of the auto trans tunnel being a bit larger than the manual trans tunnel - will malk bolting it al together ALOT easier.

You will need to trim the front radiator mounting panel - fairly easy to do and given you will have the escort shell donating the 2lt sump it will be pretty easy to figure out, will need to watch the alt wiring, etc cause that are on the other side of the engine for the 2lt.

Do yourself a favor and swap over the front struts from the 2lt escort into your car - larger springs and larger diameter tubes for the inserts, will be a straight swap over, front brakes are the same so you can pick the best rotors/caliper sets out of the two to fit up.

I'm sure there are about a million other things to wath for, but these are the main ones I can think off off hand.

Good luck with the project

hey mate, mind sharing what wreckers?
i need some parts..

what you need to do to use a cortina motor is swap sump and oil pickup for escort one.

i'm not sure of the name, i have the phone number at work, a mate told me about it. i can get it tomorrow for you. however when i rang it was the only escort they had.
what parts do you need? i may have some laying around.

Also, i bloke at work seems to think that a 2L cortina engine doesn't have a overhead cam? anyone clear this up? the motor i'm getting is from a TE cortina if that helps?
cheers

2L cortina motor from TC through to TF is an OHC Pinto - same as the 2L OHC Pinto in the escort. Tell the bloke at work to go and do a google image search....
