I'm stunned, the Commodore is still out selling the Mustang.

Hasn't Holden stuffed up big time.

They should have carried the Aussie Commodore to 2022 like they had originally planned.
It would now have had updated styling & dashboard, 10 Speed Auto and all the safety tech that they have at their disposal and still be selling a few thousand a month.

Instead they decided to replace their top selling vehicle and put their hopes on a vehicle in the mid sized class that was always going to be lucky to get 500 a month when looking at other cars such as Mazda6 ect.

Poor Holden. How the once mighty have fallen.
Same could be said for Ford to a degree, but I do believe the pedigree of vehicles Ford still have at the moment is strong and the brand is sustainable.
Not so sure about a Holden though

We hear this story every month (& not just about Holden).. There must be a lot of new cars heading to the tip & everyone seems to think, once registered the dealers just bin them!!

All registering cars (without buyers) does is more sales between months in the short term, it doesn't make fake ones over the long term.

And of course you are going to see more Mustangs, it's been on sale for over 3 years. I live in Sydney & have seen 10-12 new Commodores, but that means jake all!!

Anyway, I don't know why I'm defending them so much, I really as a Ford fan!!

One interesting thing about v facts July was (according to caradvice.com.au) that 3 new Falcons were sold!

On ZB Commodore since it was released I have seen 5 on the Gold Coast and 3 were dealer loaners or dealer branded, one was a rental.

I am reliably informed that this week, Ford produced its 10 millionth Mustang.
A white one loaded with options, probably be auctioned in the near future.

FYI Ford US sales for july here at the link

On Aussie sales i have to wonder what Ford will make of our local sales,
apart from Mustang, Ranger and Everest sales, the rest is now not even
worth the time to report.

It would be selling at best 2000 a month *initially*, having spent tens of millions (into the hundreds even) to incorporate all of those changes. FGX didn't exactly arrest the Falcon's sales slide, because buyers aren't that dumb - you can only flog a dead platform for so long.

The Holden dealer in Ingham has one ZB Commodore hidden away in a corner that I could see walking around his yard on Thursday , I have seen one ZB Commodore here in FNQ (three times) which is a rental vehicle , Commodores not even on display at other Holden dealers that I have driven past between Ayr and Cairns , almost like they have given up hope as their range of models is pretty disappointing .

Different story for the nissan navara and the vw amarok.

Looking through the segments, the best selling areas are.
Utes.
Small car.
Medium SUV.
And toyota tops all those segments. Ford does well in Utes, but what's happening with the other 2 segments for Ford?

Medium - Large sedans are not big sellers anymore, that is obvious, but toyota managed to sell over a 1000 camry's in that segment!

Funnily enough, one of the things that came out of the banking royal commission is that ANZ (Esanda) has suspended its car loans business while it determines whether to continue. Seems dodgy lending could impact availability of car credit in future...

Your not gonna increase sales by not building more units either. Ford were only building 89 sedans, Utes and territories in a shift. They just ran it out till it closed. Threw some money in for sprint. Made GPS standard on everything. Ranger already had Ford covered.

The Ford business model shifted not to chase volume, but to chase profit. No point keeping a loss-making factory going when you can just import a replacement and slap on some margin. The real problem for Holden is that their options are largely uninspired and unspectacular, and public perception is they're just rebadged Daewoos (which is not helped by the poor quality of Cruze/Captiva).

GM also doesn't really care about our market. I'd say the Holden brand will be tried for a while and if it doesn't work they will either re-brand as Chev if not shut down here. Colorado will be saviour if they can get their numbers up with commodore playing the Mustang role in back up numbers.

Since GM sold Opel/Vauxhall, the need or even the desire to sell RHD versions
of its product has really evaporated, so Holden is probably in a "state of grace"
at the moment as GM weighs up its future.

The tone of both GM and Ford has changed in the past 12 months from support
for global products to one of financial liability, so places like South America,
South Africa and Asia may be on the skids...

And I think it's more than interesting that our next Focus goes back to being
sourced from high cost Germany, speaks volumes for Thai based product.....

Worst case is the Holden brand will be sold to a Chinese car maker.

There is no future for Holden, no right hand drive cars from GM to relabel, the uncertainty of rebadging Vauxhall / Opel now that they are owned by Citreon / Peugeot.
GM should do the right thing and just shelf the Holden brand name. Show it some dignity.
