Cool Shell

:the_finge If you log onto www.shell.com.au and follow the Shell optimax extreme link it lists all the sites that have the 100 octane in SE Qld.

The shell at Albany Creek ИИИИ me off, they put Out of Service cards on all the optimax pumps so you have to use the 100% stuff :Up_to_som or go somewhere else. The 100% stuff is usually another 5 cents more expensive than optimax, the games they play just to get you to use their new product ИИИИes me off. After about a week of this I went in and asked why the optimax pumps were out of service for so long and the operator told me they couldn't get any optimax I then said to him how come the shell at Aspley & Deagon which are not that far away from Albany Creek have it and are always cheaper than him, of course he did not have an answer he just works there :
Having my 2 cents worth :

I cant remember who it was but some one said that shell's 100 was just as good as BP's Ultimate 98. it could of been a case of chinese whispers but im sure a good engine tuner said it.

I can only comment on it's usage in my WRX which I have tuned for the 100RON fuel.

Points of note:
a) in a fixed timing and fueling ecu it will run leaner.
b) the knock resistance of this fuel is amazing, leaves Optimax and Ultimate for dead.
c) Mileage is equiv on my car to using Ultimate or Optimax (when the car is tuned for those fuels).

For those that tinker with engine management, it allowed an extra 6 degrees of timing (advanced) over a 98RON timing map, with leaner mixtures, the combustion was more stable with the 100RON fuel at all times. This is in a WRX engine running 19PSI of boost at the most sensitive engine load range.

Given the 7c per litre hike over the 98RON fuels, I couldn't justify using it for 500+km per week. But it is a great fuel.

To those owners of WRX's I've spoken to that run a standard car, they have noticed that the car performs better on hot days, akin to what it would on a cooler day, which again points to the knock resistance of the fuel.

Hope this helps a little.

Brett

I am getting about 9% increase in ditance on Extreme 100.

I like the way they slammed it up from 3c over PULP to 7 c (that makes it 17c over ULP) making it $1.40 ( ish ) a litre.

Better power response, and less fumes.

Certainly no knock now in the MK II GTP using this fuel

$1.40ish, I wish! I'm paying $1.44 for regular ULP. I'm too scared to look at the premium price...
