Looks like that extra shipping volume is doing the trick transporting more Rangers and Everest
Everest just pipping Prado in sales………1984 deliveries is an excellent result.

Toyota way out in front again but how close did Ford get to Mazda at No.2, 16 sales

Don't you know, it's just a fad and EVs don't work in Australia!

Almost 40,000 cars sold from a brand with only 2 models in their line up that are Electric no less! Crazy!

Not a bad effort when the Ranger Car Company has 2 models and Mazda has a full range with seemingly endless overlapping SUVs.

As for Honda...why would you even consider them with their agency model? It was the height of hubris to introduce it. There's plenty of other Asian blandmobile options.

Everest sales are massive, I remember the previous model was around 500 for a long time.
I wonder if these sales could justify them doing a Raptor version.

Far out so many big cars there! I thought a reason ford and gm closed up shop here was because people in OZ want smaller cars!

More so they stopped buying large sedans which is what Holden and Ford here built and small cars are built cheaper overseas....

Still think there is room for Ford Aust to offer a CX-9/90/8/80/Kluger/Sorrento/Sante Fe et al..competitor, as I really don't want an Everest as an eventual replacement for our Territory...mind you a CX-60 looks good although a few times it's ride has been criticised which can never be said of Ford products.

With the announcement of the Ranger hybrid, I thought a hybrid Everest would be an interesting buy-in to the hybrid market.

Tesla Model Y result YTD is amazing, coming from nowhere to market dominance.

Also interesting is MG ZS outselling RAV4 ytd. Although you might think Aussies love cheap and cheerful and the cheaper the more cheerful, Toyota could fall on their katana if this keeps up in the segment

Both of those winners made in China I think too - here comes the volume shift. EV shift is taking place in force now.

Overseas there's news of EU/Germany trying to protect their EV industry from Chinese competition and prolong ICE, will the German industry head the way of our one?

Agree. The CX-60 base turbo petrol I6 has the ingredients to be the best Terry replacement and maybe sweet spot in the range, have noticed the ride reports, hopefully they tune it.

thanks for the details.

I sure would love to see some of those US vehicles here like Maverick and Bronco Sport
but without factory RHD support, there’s little point in importing and converting locally.
The cost would be prohibitive versus the competition in that segment.

Also wondering what impact F150 sales will have, the +$100k price will def slow interest
but maybe the 3.5 V6 Ecoboost presents a more compelling case vs large capacity V8

I hate SUVs but I get a chubby for the Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Suburban - we should have the Explorer in our market I reckon since we have a fetish for SUVs.

A case of Ford US saying UK don't want an Explorer so we'll make a RHD Edge/Endura with 5 seat version but charge 7 seater competitor money and give it to Australia as well and then use a low powered diesel.
Another situation of our vehicle tastes aligning more with US buyers than Euro buyers but not getting the vehicles to suit.

Excellent month for Everest. Was at my local dealer today and they were full to the brim with new ranger / Everest waiting for delivery. I honestly don't remember the place ever being so packed but this is the problem with relying on boats. Was a bit difference in the Falcon days when cars would come weekly by road then sit in the dealership for weeks / months before sale.

The difference is that everything now is basically sold long before arrival,
curious to see how quickly Ford reduces wait times on Ranger and Everest.
A 6-9 month wait on those vehicles is ridiculous, even 3 months is bad.

the business driver for a Ranger hybrid is Europe, not Australia. Since we don't sell Everest in Europe, I don't think there will be a hybrid any time soon. Especially as they have just gutted the development team :(

I hadn't thought of that at all! Makes perfect sense now.

Shame really though about the development team and its implications. These platforms are on borrowed time before Ford retires them for EV based platforms.

Do you plan to keep it for 20 years? Or even 10?
I'm sure it will last as long as it needs to and be end up being just a footnote in the history of the automobile.
Just about everything nowadays is an appliance and is not worth keeping beyond the warranty period.
Polestar salesman told me electric cars will last longer and be more reliable than a IC car. I told him I still regularly drive a 35 year old Mazda and does he think the Polestar would last that long? He changed the subject

We are opening old wounds here, but I think this is a myth.

Ford & Holden closed down for different reasons.

Yes, large car sales were falling, but the Commodore was always at or near the top of the sales charts until the day the Elizabeth factory closed it doors.

Ford had no exports & the Falcon wasn't selling as well as the Commodore, but they were still selling well compared to some car volumes these days. With Falcon only Ford Aust's volume was too low given our high wages & Govt charges. It just wasn't viable. The GFC in 2008 resulted in little support from Ford US.

The GFC saw Holden's parent company (GM US) empty their cash reserves & rip their (very profitable) exports off them, loosing huge volumes. Even with Commodore selling well locally they now had no money to develop a new model. This left them with no future given the same lousy business environment as Ford was forced into.

It was very sad to see the end of our industry, but there were too many factors against it. Falling sales of large cars was only one minor factor.

If large car sales is a minor factor how come there are no large car sales in the top 10 today. Yes parent company support is the biggest factor however unless a ute was going to be built in Australia and exported no brand of the local 3 would have survived here regardless.....at best a delayed shutdown.

The idea that Australia wanted small cars was generated by the media to try to explain the shift away from the local pair of falcon and commodore.

The truth was, they weren't being bought because they lacked versatility. They were expensive as just transport and small cars did the job cheaper. Smaller cars were actually similar in size to what falcon and commodore used to be. Suv's became popular for their better ingress/egress. Dual cabs became popular for their ability to multi task.

Owning a large car that only really serves as a people mover stopped making sense and the trend continues today. Large sedans are history.

Large sedans still exist, they're just niche market with niche market pricing - Mercedes S Class and BMW 7 Series.

Get out the wallet large sedan fans, $200K+ to look like Scomo.
