Default Radio Security Code Error all the time

Can anyone help with loading the security code. I have the code but the Radio display now always shows 'Err'. I originally got the 'Code' display when the battery was replaced. But, since I loaded the wrong code a couple of times, I now keep getting that darn 'Err'. I did leave it overnight & tried this morning 0 no good. Tonight, I disconnected the battery for varying periods up to 30 minutes & tried again but still no go. Do I just wait for another 24 hours or what? Otherwise I will have to go to a dealer !! (The AU has the "Prestige audio System")
Thanks in anticipation.. :

have you unplugged the radio from its loom and plugged it back in. try that.

i think we did that to my mums car. cause its had several replacement stackers and we mix up the codes sometimes. now sorted.

That's not going to work - disconnecting the battery has the same effect as unplugging the loom (ie no power to radio).

What you need to do is to turn the car to the "On" position (ie accessories on, engine off - where the radio would normally turn on), and turn the radio on so the "Err" displays and leave it like that for at least 45 mins. Then it should go back to code, and enter the code in carefully.

If you get it wrong again, you need to do the above procedure but you need to leave the key in for a longer period of time.

Do wat JC says, leave the key on ACC for atleast 45 minutes then try, dont drive the car in this period or touch it however!

Yes - definitely don't drive it or touch it at all - just leave the keys in until the Err goes away and Code reappears - the BEM needs time to verify that the key is in the ignition, and that's it'd not someone trying to steal the radio/car/whatever.

it might take more than 45 mins.. THe error message flashes longer for every time the code has been entered wrong. It might take 4 hours if you have entered the wrong code 5 times for example..

I had this problem with the LTD ( premium sound system ) the first time I changed the battery. When it asked for the code I carefully put in the number that Ford provided in my service book. I then received the dreaded ErrOr. Waited 5 Mins and Code came back, put it in again and the same thing., this time waited 15 mins and tried yet again with the same result.
I rang Ford and they said even a dummy can put the code in correctly, so down to Ford I went to find a dummy ( plenty of them around apparently ).
By the time I got there the ErrOr had disappeared.
They said $10 to put in the code, I thought a bit expensive but I wanted the stereo to work so I agreed.
They went to their computer and punched in the cars details and it gave them the code ( exactly the same as the one I had ).
Out comes the service guy ( yes I found a dummy ) and types in the code. ErrOr comes up again. He said the code must be wrong for the unit and then has to take the radio out to get the serial numbers off the back of the unit ( lucky they come out easy sometimes ). He went back to his computer and typed in the details and it gave him a new code number.
He couldn't put it in because the unit was showing ErroR so didn't charge me the $10 as it was now a warranty item instead.
I had to wait a couple of hours for the code to show again but the new code did work.
Worst case scenario is pay $10 to Ford for a new number

PM the user SIDO. Give him your SIDO number and ask him really really nicely for the radio code.

Edit: Can't find the user. gotta check my PMs to see the username

edit 2: PM MR_SIDO with your SIDO and ask really really nicely.

Actually, it's nothing to do with the BEM, the radio has its own processor (computer chip).

It's always a nice feeling when the radio comes to life after you tentatively try to enter the correct code :1syellow1

So you are saying that you dont need to know the code to reset, simply leave the key in the ignition position and let the computer acknowledge the key and the code appears? Just bought our 2nd AU and no owners manual/no code!

No you do need the code, what JC is referring to is what happens if you stuff up entering the code.

Example -

put code in, code is wrong

delay

try again, get code wrong again

even longer delay

and so on.

That's easy. your code is NOT 732. It is 4 numbers, and comprised of only digits from 1 to 6. You will need to go to Ford to get the real code, or send the serial number to ASL (site sponsor) and they can give you the code. You need to remove the unit to get the serial number.

Hi. you will need to check your owners handbook as all units had 4 digit codes and some numbers did use a range of 0 to 9. On those units the "1" button advanced to the next spot and the "<" and ">" buttons scrolled through the digits. Cheers MD

Hi guys
Just brought a old 1989 DA LTD.
And the car had a flat battery.
So it has lost the Radio.
Just wondering that now it's 2018 that anyone knows how to find the codes .
Ford say it's to old for their records.
Can any one help please or know someone that can.
Cheers
