Hey guys, sometimes the headlights in my EB don't turn on straight away when I switch them on. This goes for parkers, low and hi beams. At times it can take more than 10 seconds for them to flicker on. What should I check/replace?

sounds like 1 of 2 thing bro. either a faulty headlight switch or a earth somewhere, does it do it with engine running or off or both? l would say check conections on the dash switch an the lights. do rear light up straight away or same thing? either way check earth an switch

Replace the headlight relay. The contacts are sticking or the coil is not being sufficiently magnetised and taking a while to open the contacts.

Also clean the relay socket contacts with contact cleaner lubricant (not WD40 or CRC though that's better than nothing) and emery paper. Coolant from the adjacent plastic coolant tank tend to get into the contacts causinng corrosion and a coating of oxide.

The problem is intermittent, it'll be fine for weeks and then out of the blue it will play up.
It only seems to do it when the car is running- I know this because when it last played up, I switched the car off and the headlights suddenly worked as they should. I turned the car on again, and the problem came back. I will replace the relay and let you know how I go. |
