My final Falcon.

Since 1995 I've had a total of 7 new Falcons. I've had 3 XR8's, an F6, a GT, and currently an XR6T ute.
At 1:00pm this afternoon my faithful FG XR6T will be traded in and there will never be another Falcon in my parking spot at home or at work. 6 months or so after the closure and this is when it's really hit me.

Fortunately I still have (and always will have) my XW GT.

Yea, since moving to Australia in 2001, I've only ever owned Falcons. I'm on my 5th now.

I honestly have no idea what I'm going to do after the G6ET has had it's turn.....

I've had 6 Falcons since 2003, 5 new and 1 secondhand.
My last was an FG2 XR6T ute, I had planned on a final FGX but after owning 3 FG's the similar interior was too much to stomach for a 4th time.

My next car will probably be a quad turbo, triple intercooled 1.1L 3cyl from China for $14,990 driveaway.

I will be buying used falcons for as many years as I can. I just cannot stomach the servicing/repair/spare part cost/wait time for parts of any of these imports. You can get every falcon spare for nothing on eBay/wreckers and most mechanics can fix them with their eyes closed.
Mate just picked up a bare Barra 6 with 120,000 kms for his ba from wrecker for $200 runs perfect.
Long live the Falcon, if I had the cash I would stick a couple newish ones in the shed

G'day , Interesting subject . I've never been able to buy a brand new Falcon or anything else other than an Escort demo for that matter. Small matter of not on a big enough wage.
That however hasn't stopped me from owning a 1974 XB ute , 1984 XE GL , a 1996 EF Futura , a 2001 AU Futura , still got her , a 2003 BA Fairmont Ghia and now a 2008 FG XR6 .. Every one has been basically trouble free , low maintenance and cheap to maintain . My AU ll and FG XR6 are just lovely to drive.. I don't care what happens , I'll own Falcons as long as it's possible to have them because if you're on a good thing stick to it.
There'll never be anything much else grace this driveway , that's for sure..

Well I've been buying up some older XR8 Falcons in the last 6 months...I now have two 1999 AU1 XR8's, one 1991 EB S-XR8 and my 2013
FG2 XR6..The FG2 XR6 that I bought brand new has been put away in the shed (43,000 kms), and i'm driving one of the AU XR8's...and I'm enjoying the car muchly.

G'day ...LOVELY LIST and not a bad collection you have very nice ...Isn't this fact ironic ?. Some say they hate the AU (not me by any means) because I love them . The same chief designer (Steve Park) for the AU exterior just happens to be the same bloke who chief designed what is widely considered one of the best looking Falcons , the FG. That I do agree with. This was initially pointed out to me via AFF.

I find this weird when my FGX XR8 has 45,000 trouble free km, including a track day, and hard driving on the odd occasion., actually a LOT of hard driving in the first 12 months- lots of experimentation was required.

Now into my third year of ownership and the only thing that has gone wrong was the rear spoiler light screw falling out.

In actual fact this car has been better put together and more solid than my Honda Euro.

Not sure why so many people of the FGX XR6's are having problems....

Yea, I bought my FGX G6ET with 11,000km on the clock back in September.

It now has 42,000km on it (I drive 170km a day getting to work and back). Hasn't missed a beat. Not a single problem. Nothing at all. Has been a pleasure to own and drive to work every day. And it doesn't get babied either. It gets driven as it was designed for.

But I was provided company cars from the ef, then an sr au , ba and then bf before we all got chucked off cars and then given an allowance to lease back whatever we wanted

So I went a bf xr6t then got off lease back to private financing an fg xr8

And I was really disappointed with the xr8 and went back to basics on a fg mk2 xr6 auto

Great car but was overtaken by the fgx xr6 and now working on holding it for as long as I can

I don't see anything out there that interests me , cheap or expensive, fast or furious ...at 59 years of age I am hoping this car can take me to the end of my road

My grandfather worked at ford Geelong some years ago and I figured he did it tough and for other reasons unbeknown to me, I have stuck with falcons through good times and bad ...

But each to their own ... and I find I always turn when a well maintained Falcon pulls up alongside, irrespective of what year or variant ... so I am hoping to become one of those people who values what little they have and look after it ... that's my ambition given fgx is the end of the line ....

I too have a connection to people who worked for Ford Australia. My brother worked at the casting plant in Geelong in the 90's. One of my uncles, a great uncle, and one of my great grandfathers, plus friends/acquaintances from the area where I live all worked at the Ford plant in Geelong. I too now turn my head and even give a nod to those that drive a well maintained Falcon, and others do the same to me..it's like we're thinking the same thing - keeping the dream alive I guess...😄

G'day Rod, its ironic that while the AU series did not get a good reception when released, has now earned a good following, due to being a very robust car underneath. The SOHC I6 was extremely reliable in its last reiteration, and the car was more fuel efficient than the BA. I always liked the AU XR's in particular the XR8's with the quad headlight fronts. My two AU1 XR8's have the optional tickford body kits, with the hot chilli red duco, I think they look the part! I've always liked the little 5.0l Windsor too 😁

People generally flip them off due to lease deals I thought. If you were dropping cash every two years then thats madness. But if you can why not.

Mine were all operating lease agreements. Effectively I didn't really own them.
The only one I had any issues with was the AU1 XR8, It had the diff centre replaced quite a few times and developed a crack in the firewall around the slave cylinder. The BA GT had started to develop some rust around the boot area. My favourite would be hard to split between the BF F6 and AU3 XR8.

I still have a BF GT and it has not had a spanner laid on it apart from routine serving, I still drive my '75 XB Ute regularly and on interstate trips and it has never missed a beat.

Missus drives a 20 year old Toyota that has not had a spanner laid on it apart from servicing, some people must just be hard on cars.

If it makes any of you feel better, I got my first XB Falcon Ute here in the US about 2 years ago and am preparing for the rebuild. I have my second Falcon Ute, 1988 XF, hit the states on the 25th, I should be able to get it in 2 weeks or so pending US DOT inspection.

However, I feel I need an XR8 to round out the collection.

Apparently you have to be mega rich to afford a ton of regulatory rules or wait til the car is 25 years old..These are BA and BA ll 2002/2004 utes..

Hi Rod,

Well I would not be able to bring one in for Street Use as it would be newer than the 25 Year Rule. I can bring in a roller as parts,(meaning no engine and transmission, but we have a few Coyotes laying around here in the state) and that is pretty much the plan. I could, however, bring in the back half of a Commodore and use a local Pontiac G8 and make that street legal rather easily, but its not the Falcon. So the plan is for a 2004-2006 Boss. I missed one that was a Statutory write off in NSW, can only assume fresh water damaged but it was clean.

I know to find the one I want I have to get to Oz and look around. I think I have seen every one on Gumtree, Ebay Australia, Trovit etc.

I know the bloke who sold me his XF thought I was insane until the shipper contacted him. It will cost $4250 to get an BA in.
