Ranger doing well in the 4x4 market.

The Blue Oval shifted 2497 Ranger 4x4s in February 2017 to put it on top of the monthly 4x4 sales charts.
The Ranger held a 21.9 per cent share of the overall PU/CC 4x4 market, ahead of the Toyota Hilux (20.0 per cent).
With back-to-back monthly wins, the Ford Ranger has sold 374 more 4x4 vehicles than the second-placed Toyota Hilux so far in 2017.
In the overall market, Light Commercial Vehicles held an 18.5 per cent share of total industry sales in February. When compared to February last year, the sale of LCVs dropped by 5.6 per cent, though this can be attributed to unusually strong February 2016 sales.
“February 2016 included one extra selling day and saw a lot of activity in the market. This resulted in a 6.7 per cent surge over February 2015,” said the chief executive of the FCAI, Mr Tony Weber.
February 2017 was also a milestone month for SUVs, as they (39.9 per cent) overtook passenger cars (39.0 per cent) in total monthly sales.
“The steady, demonstrable shift in consumer preference, which has been occurring in the past few years, has culminated in this February outcome,” Mr Weber said.
“Of course, this one monthly outcome doesn’t signal a landslide but clearly Australian buyers are attracted by the features and capabilities of new generation SUVs, and how these types of vehicles suit their needs and lifestyles.”
The Toyota Corolla was Australia’s best-selling vehicle in February (3392 sales). It was followed by the Toyota Hilux 4x2/4x4 (3386), Mazda3 (3143), Ford Ranger 4x2/4x4 (2931) and Hyundai i30 (2003).

Despite only having the Ranger doing well, its still doing better than Holden's best the Commodore.
I honestly believe when it comes to the rest of the mix Ford have it over Holden, so surely there will be a change in positions in the coming months currently the gap is about 400 cars.
They may already have done it if there was a Territory replacement in place, apparently we need to wait till 2018, till then Craptiva remains unopposed.

Bevsta007..My "Craptiva" has done 16,000kms in 11 months, 2,800kms towing a 1.8tonne caravan in summer heat, hasn't missed a beat...You cannt compare the Series 1 to the Series 3. And Arcadia/Equinox are coming later this year...Ford should get Edge here, sooner..for some reason, known only to Ford, latest models take years to get here. Okay, guys rip into me!!!!!!

My point ? the Captiva is supposed to be a pile of doggy do do, from day 1. Its not, Series 1 had a few problems. There are two at work with 150,000kms+ on the clock, no issues...seen how many are on the road??? compared to Kuga!!!
But its okay for Fiesta/Focus to have a faulty auto box, Kuga to catch fire, ZF to milkshake!!!!.

I know someone with a Captiva that crapped the gearbox, they hate it.

Yep I see heaps of Kuga's, never seen one on fire either

Just wait till it gets some age about it.

Its still the same 2006 car too which is disappointing.

Plenty of happy Territory owners out there with over 200,000 kms now...

We all know by now that you love your Craptiva, csv8, so there's no need to remind us every time someone uses the term Craptiva or every time the vfacts figures come up, or every time Holden is rubbished, or......

If you want to share the love you have for a Holden product, I suggest there might be more suitable forums than the Australian Ford Forums to do that on.

Ok I admit I might have dangled a Carrot for you there.. & I'm sure the series 3 is much better, the factory no longer has Daewoo on the side.

My Point was more that if the Edge were here I'm sure it would be killing it in comparison.

My girlfriends is less than 2 years old and already has had window switches replaced, a new alternator and new drive belt. They are garbage. csv8's is probably the only one ever built that has made it to the first service without having warranty work.

Does it matter for the fleet queens? I guess the dealers are happy plenty of servicing work.

Ford can't compete at the very bottom end of 4x2's. Toyota sell a stack of bargain basement Workmates and vinyl floored 4x2's, and they have a petrol engine option which Ford dropped due to small uptake. I think the cheapest Hilux is thousands cheaper than the cheapest Ranger.

In saying that it's not even a market Ford would really want to compete in cause profits are tiny. They prefer to sell high profit Wildtraks and XLT's, which they do, hence why they outsell Hilux in 4X4.

With the hilux workmates, dealers get something as well, ongoing servicing, parts and accessories should the purchaser chooses to upgrade from the base alloy tray, add a bull bar etc. a few businesses also purchase these through lease companies. Every customer has different tastes on some of these accessories to suit their requirements. Rental companies buy heaps of workmates also.
So not only does toyota have a piece of profit, some others do as well.
If Ford are choosing not to compete in this segment, I am not sure why, every little bit of profit helps .

Just took the dogs for a walk. Over at our local Hall a bunch of locals have gone on a bus trip for the weekend. I counted 28 cars. 25 Jap, 1 Holden, 1 Ford and 1 Mercedes. Out of the 25 jap 17 were SUV..............
Our choice of cars has changed a lot in 20 years
( I think that deserves a spreadsheet Russ !! )

Shocking that whitegoods on wheels Toy Motor Co as a whole is outselling Fraud Australia 3 to 1. Without Ranger's success Ford might as well pack up and go back to Detroit. Rentals and fleets must be the ones propping up Mitsubishi and Hyundai? Can't seem to rent an entry level car that isn't a Hyundai or Mitsubishi these days. Or are VFacts private buyers only?

No they include private buyers. If you look at the supplementary stats we do quarterly, you'll see that most of the growth has been in the private buyer segment a cross almost all of the major sectors.
