Default WS Fiesta 17 inch alloy wheel

One of the alloys on my WS Fiesta has been buckled due to a bloody pothole. The damage appears to be minimal as it is barely visible from some angles. But, according to a couple of alloy wheel repair specialists, the wheel is unrepairable. So I’ve been trying to source a new wheel (the 5-spoke 17 inch factory option alloy).

As with the servicing costs, there seems to be quite a bit of variation in the prices, depending on which Ford dealer I speak to. The prices have ranged from around $415 to $510 per wheel. I can’t understand how there can be more than 20% difference from dealer to dealer on a standard item. One of the dealers told me that the $415 I was quoted from another dealer is below his ‘cost’ price of $450! What a load of BS!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew any other places where I could get one of these wheels (for less than $415). I’m happy to go with a used one if necessary, but I know that this will be unlikely considering the age of the car.

BTW... I'm in Victoria.

if you find a dealer who has an actual reasonable price, let us know... there is a few here that'd love a set of 17's... but we all got quoted ridiculous prices as well....

might be easier for insurance if your excess isnt to high?

The standard excess is $500, so insurance won't help for me, as I only need one wheel.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Not sure if its still the case but at the time we ordered out car, all the VIC dealers got the 17" Fiesta WS rims from Wheel King in Moorabbin so I suppose best to call them directly. Hope this helps mate.

Their web address is: www.wheelking.com.au

Thanks, Dave.

I just had a quick check on the Wheel King website, and it has a listing for the factory option wheel. However, it quotes "$525 Outright single rim only".

I'll try and give them a call to see if I can get a better price, but it's unlikely that they'll reduce the price to beat the best price of $415 that I've got from one of the Ford dealers.

Cheers,

Mick

Holy crap talk about profiteering!!! The last tie the whole set was around $300 less including tyres for the base spec and each rim being around $450 or so. Let us all know the best price and the outcome as I'm sure many of us would like to upgrade too.

Send the bill to the council. Write a letter about the incident and even send some photos of the hole if it is still there.

Never know, worst they can do is say no...

Update: I got the 17inch wheel from the Ford dealer that I bought the car from for $400 (trade price). I think it was a pretty good deal, considering some of the other prices out there. However, it sucks that I had to replace the wheel in the first place.

I have kept the old wheel, which only has a very small 'flat spot' on the outer face. I may still try and get it repaired (now that there's no tyre on it), so that I have a spare.

Regarding trying to recoup the money from the council or VicRoads, I think it's pretty much a lost cause. I've heard reports of people trying, but getting nowhere. I may give it try, though. I did try and take photos of the pothole the next day, but it had already been filled!

So it'd be $1600 for four. That's just under a $200 saving compared to the price on www.ford.com.au/fiesta under the accessories section. Not bad mate.

Think I've got to look into 205/17/45 tyres before buying the rims though!
