Now im interested to hear things that stick with people passed down. One statement my grandpa always said to me since i was a child was the day you stop learning. What he means by that is sort of keep your mind active then life has meaning. Just saying you learn something everyday isnt really the right way of saying what he means. And i think the old bloke is right. For example on friday i had a job to do, sort an issue, and whilst its a part i have changed hundreds of over the past decade, id never seen a contactor weld itself out. Welded in isnt uncommon or burnt coils or contacts are standard failing points, but again, the old bloke was right in what he has always said and it made my day just learning something new i had never seen even if it was just another day at work. I see the same boost in life with my grandpa and his great attitude towards life. So he is 92 and he and my grandmas world was sort of becoming a smaller place. He still holds an unrestricted drivers licence and last year it was becoming a bit more obvious his pride and joy 2000 626 was just a bit to big, but at 92, as opposed to just selling the car he bought a prius. You cant shut the old man up when he gets into the regenerative braking and all the battery stuff he reads. He is a changed person going from being boxed in to now having the confidence to get around again. I made the mistake of offering to drive but in daylight hours he is the captain. So his words of wisdom have some credibility.

My dad always said he’d rather be looking at it than looking for it
I use the same, he ment keeping everything organised I just order everything possible and return what’s not needed at the end ��

Well, in this case maybe wisdom isnt the word. The one thing i have always told my kid is i want him to be the doctor not the patient. No i dont want him to study medicine if thats not what he chooses to do, and the kid is only 9 so he has time to work it all out. What i mean is be the solutions guy. Not just living life spraying problems out there. Take a problem and return with a solution. Not just a report on what the issue is, a solution or solutions to solve the issue. He doesnt quite get it and i dont hold it above him because kids are kids, but all i want is to try and plant a moving forward attitude rather then a defeatist someone else will fix it attitude like what i see all the time in the past few years.

When i was a kid my old man would say..
As you are now i was, and as i am now you'll be. As a kid i thought, cool, one day i'll have heaps of money and all the answers.. Now i realise it wasnt about money or knowledge, he was bald at 40 and so too am i..

Some wisdom i learnt today. Never go to a car show with a freelance photographer. I like to poke around and have a gander at cars and move on, but that doesnt happen when 28 photos of each little thing get taken with atleast 3 lense changes. And the best angle for shots of the burnouts is never in the shade. So on a 40 degree day observing some very straya burnouts in the sun.. not ideal. Cant ditch a mate but, as much as i wanted to.

Something popped up in my head today. It was a conversation i had with the owner of a building company 10 or 11 years ago when i was an apprentice. The memory stems from the mismanagement and rank style management of a job ive been pulled off my jobs to help out on. So way back when, i was on site and the owner of the building company was doing the ally skirting boards, so i asked why his young blokes arent doing that. In short he told me, theyre doing the things he can do with his eyes closed, maybe slower, but they'll get quicker. And it shows even he can still do the crap jobs. So being humble. Thats the way i run my jobs still. And that extends to cleaning up. Ill do it. What this bloke said to me was if an apprentice spends half his time cleaning up after a tradesman, doesnt that mean he is only good to be that guy who walks behind an elephant with a shovel? So with the mismanagement of the site thats not mine that ive been helping out on, the whole lack of teaching is a crock of ****. Clearly, never giving someone learning a go means they dont learn.
