Default Nicky Hayden

Sad to hear this.

I never knew the bloke but you would see him walking around a GP paddock and he would always acknowledge you.

One of the nice guys and could ride like the wind.

RIP Nicky Hayden. Such a tragic loss and after riding Motor Bikes at speeds over 300 k's, all ends on a bloody push bike. :(

The driver was never lost and it looks like Nicky was at fault.

Quote:
Italian newspapers reported on Monday that investigators had found video of the accident from a camera on a house overlooking the road.
They said the images suggested Hayden had failed to stop at an intersection and was hit full on by the passing car.
Tragic outcome either way, top bloke and great rider...

Unfortunately cyclists seem to think they have special privalages even though they dont pay any registration like drivers do. Out where i live N.E rural Melbourne they ride on sunny weekends and they ride in packs and take over the road.

Why the hell do they risk riding side by side when they know the weekends are busy with tourists in cars?

Sorry Nicky but you should have stopped at the interesection.
I live in the Macedon Ranges and know exactly what you're taking about.

I'm a cyclist, a motorcyclist, and a car driver so see it from all sides.

I think road cyclists of a certain type (middle aged, male, lycra, expensive road bike) traveling in groups in peletons of 30+ riders on a narrow winding country road at around 30km/h is a supreme display of arrogance designed to pee everyone off that isn't in the peleton basically because they can. They take up the entire lane and end up leading a parade of cars that will eventually squeeze past one by one where they can and then the cyclists give them the finger for having the temerity of passing them without an adequate amount of clearance.

Kids on bikes are fine, family groups on bikes are fine, people on mountain bikes are fine, people by themselves on road bikes are fine...so what is it with lycra?

The issue of course is that in any argument with a car they are going to be the worst off...and lycra isn't going to do squat.

Not saying this was the issue with Nicky here...and yeah the car is a mess

Doesn't matter if it's cars or bikes, it really knocks me around when a genuine racer dies. It's like losing a mate. Damn!
