New Mustang will have IRS.

It's been seen testing at the Nurburgring utilising the new IRS in a test mule.

Anyone every seen a limo company use SUV's, bar the odd stretched Hummer.

To me it appears they are trying to do everything as cheap as they can, by using unsuitable Ford platforms and trying to force buyers onto them believing they are stupid enough to think their vehicles are somehow replacements for things like the Towncar, Marauder and those 2 door coupes they used to sell etc.

No wonder they are barely selling. Go back 3 years and Ford Australia was selling more Falcons and Territorys in a month than what the whole Lincoln range does now, in a market 15 times bigger.
Ford Execs are the problem. They've completely changed the Ford brand on it's head... they've invested Billions, and have been making Billions, and now it's the best it's ever been.

But after having spent all that money, they've gone back to old Ford ideas by doing Lincoln 'on-the-cheap'. And in the Luxury Segment no less.

Either they get serious, or save the money and close Lincoln down. Money that could go into further strengthening the Ford brand.

Designer Josiah LaCalla has taken a stab at what a Ford Mustang-based Lincoln model might look like with the Continental Mark X1 concept. Make no mistake, Ford's luxury arm has made it abundantly clear that it won't be pursuing any new products outside of volume models, which means a flashy halo grand tourer like the one you see here isn't in the cards. LaColla used the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as a basis for his creation, which explains the long nose, but we certainly don't mind the idea of a rear-wheel drive Lincoln with a cabin pushed to the aft.

While we're dreaming, there's certainly nothing stopping us from imagining what's under that lengthy hood. We like the idea of the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 from the Shelby GT500 pushing the Mark X1 down the road, but how about something a little more inventive? Something like a high-revving, buttery V12 with enough torque to push the contraption well past 200 miles per hour. Dream a little dream, people.
This is why people get frustrated about Ford's way of handling Lincoln. It took an independent designer to make a Lincoln worth considering.

Will it amount to anything. Damn I hope so.

"Lincoln" & "Volume Selling" arent really words that should be used together. They are an arm of a company that already makes volume selling cars.
Its not the 70s anymore, they cant just re-body a Ford platform, throw in some chrome & leather, then slap a Lincoln badge on it.

Their cars need to be exclusive, individual. Use the fact theyre a luxury marque to create cars that dont make sense to badge as a Ford.
The above is a step in the right direction, hopefully they take the idea seriously & stop making blinged-up Fusions & Tauruses.

The only thing worth considering here is if that design should be put in the bin or the tip!! That is terrible!!

It's not that bad, but it's not that great either.

However it's what it embodies, that is the concept Ford needs. Something long, swoopy, powerful, and exclusive.

If Toyota can make Lexus work then Ford has no excuse. You can use volume selling platforms and regig them. The Americans just really suck at it. Dont tell me you cant engineer a LHD/RHD Large car for global markets with one of the current platforms or even make a new one....

If Lincoln is a burden then forget it and stop playing games IMO, money could be spent elsewhere.
