Van as in caravan? Should'nt overheat at all, and you should'nt need a bigger radiator.

Go visit a cooling shop pronto! Your car is overheating, not because you are towing, but because you have a cooling system problem. And that problem aint the size of your radiator.

I agree with FFOracing, the EL cooling system is more than adequate when it is working efficiently. Have it checked out.

Yeah get the radiator looked at, its probably the original one and blocked up with casting sand, corrosion etc. If you need a new one you can look at a larger 3 row radiator, the V8 is okay with the standard 2 row but the 3 row is good insurance especially if you tow a lot.

1995 EL?? typo. (96-98)

Full cooling system flush /pressure test etc + new coolant should see it sweet as providing nothing is broken.

There was a thread a while back with tips on keeping E-series cool..

But I'd say the radiator is fill of casting sand from the block. I wouldn't bother (I didn't) getting it reco'd. Buy new from Ford.

Also being you are towing a van, have you had a larger cooler fitted for the transmission?

Have the radiator pulled down and the rods dowelled if you want to restore the operation. Worth noting that when mine blocked up it caused the side tank to split open one night when wandering up into the higher rev ranges...

Standard replacements $180, got one of these recently myself and very happy:

GMAN the RADMAN is a top guy.... email him if you wanna get into something a little more serious... I think he said 3 cores for about $300.
