Default Engine Malfunction warning light

Just started up my 2009 Mondeo Zetec wagon, started fine, but the warning message came up on my display "Engine Malfunction".

But everything appears to be running okay? Has anyone else has this issue? What could it be?

No idea.
But seeing it is still under warranty, I would say take it back to your Ford Dealer and say "Fix it"
That is why I buy new cars.

The message has disappeared now, so maybe just a one off. I find the words of the error a bit powerful though! I was expecting my car to explode any minute while I was driving!

There is too much software in cars these days.

When I start my car in the garage, which is a bit dark, I sometime get "Headlight malfunction" warning and then the headlights come on, message goes away... this would clearly be a timing issue where the light module is slower than the headlight check module...

<sigh>...

RicOz, sometimes intermident issues like the one you have are due to electrical prolems such are loose wire harness connections etc.

Get it checked out id say a sensor value was in correct and made the light come on, most likely O2 sensor. as not every engine fault brings the warning light on, but if its to do with emissions it more than likely will especially on euro 4 cars now days
