au3 xr8's are fantastic, i owned one last year, but that dream was put to an end by a navara....

i just felt the vct would be better suited to me at the moment. provided they are not too problematic

Well if you had one then you certainly know what there like then, and yes they are fantastic, having recently purchased one for the missus (AU3 XR8 220 kw)
You wont be as impressed with the other option, but best way is to drive one and see what you think...They have all the usual AU probs, some more, some less, more positive than negative from my experience.

im just mainly concerned about the VCT part of it since ive never really seen any information regarding issues/problems. hopefully its just like the HP XR6 with the exception of VCT.

...and the IRS you'd already be familiar with, plus a few other minor upgrades over the HP.

Ok speaking from experience with dads manual 2002 model VCT. It has done over 84k. Strut tops can get noisy and its a very common problem with AU IRS models. Not expensive but set aside around $300-400 to get it sorted.

You should have no problems with the engine and it delivers good torque from down low. The other downside is that it uses quite alot of fuel for a 6 cylinder. I had an AUII XR6 HP and the difference to the VCT is unbelievable. I can get about 100-150km more easily.

No. Traction control runs off the ABS sensors and then cuts ignition to shut power to the motor down, which has nothing to do with ride height. It's sort of like the similarities between the windscreen washer bottle and the radiator - while they both hold water, one has nought to do with the other. Same thing here, TC is operated using ABS sensor rings, which are attached to the hubs, which are attached to the suspension uprights, which are attached to the shock assembly which include the springs, which control the ride height.

Aust i think ull find almost all SWB/LWB with VCT or V8 have T/C, besides V8 fortes. S1 Ghias included.

Ive had an AU 2 XR6 vct ute,and ,and Ive had and EL2 xr6 and ED XR6 ,my mum has an AU Hp Xr6 sedan and If i was to get another AU Xr6 which is highly likely,Id go for the HP,I found the torque better with HP through out the rev range and feels roarer if thats a word, fuel economy better as well.the only thing to watch if you do buy a HP is the LSD is not standard(if thats a big thing for you.) in au2/3 as well as rear power windows, and a few other things.

Id be happy if my AU SR wagon went as good as a HP xr6,which should be soon.

VCT do have performance exhaust. I owned one before my xr8. I will tell you that it was a great car heap of power. The vct came alive if you change the exhaust and put headers on. My dad owns it now and it gives my xr8 a run for it money. Use fuel like an xr8.
