G'day All,

Well the scores have been checked and double checked and the winners of the Annual 6 v 8 Trophy has been decided. Remember that the scores from the Canon Ball Run drag day and Morgan Park sprints count towards the final score.

And the winners are -

You will have to wait until it is announced at the Christmas Party on Saturday night. For those not going I will post the results as soon as we get home.

Cheers,

Ken

I thought prior to last years run at Darlington Park (not included in this years results) and this years run at Morgan Park, that the 6's would have been dominated by the 8's and I was very wrong. At DP there ended up being less than a couple of 1/10th's overall between the 8's and 6's and at MP it was much the same.

The Cannonball day was scored on a points system as times didn't matter as it was a dial your own event. Points were awarded to the teams on progression through the rounds. Will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Although I predict a landslide victory for the 8's! Mainly because I own one.

Default Lies, damn lies and statistics...

Hi All,
The Morgan Park day was a fabulous event for all.

The big question is of course: Who won the day - the sixes or the eights ??

Our esteemed President Ken has published the results in a post above, with an average for the 3 laps for all participants of 1.29 for the eights and 1.30 for the sixes. Similarly, the average fastest lap for all participants was 1.26 for the eights and 1.28 for the sixes.

So on the basis of the above, it's close, but it would seem that the eights are in front.

BUT, maybe that measure is too simple... We all know how statistics can be selectively used to get the result we want - and that's exactly what I have done!!

Having a personal bias towards the sixes, I had another look at the data to see if I could select a few measures of performance that demonstrated the superiority of the sixes:

1. Fastest lap of the day: Greg Munro at 1.17 in a SIX

2. Of the Top 10 fastest cars, the average for the SIXES was 1.23, the eights average was slower at 1.24.

3. Of the Top 20 fastest cars, the average for both sixes and eights was 1.23 - no difference.

4. Of the Top 20 best average lap times, 10 cars were SIXES and 10 cars were eights - again no difference.

I could go on...

So, there is a good case to conclude that the SIXES won the day !!

Cheers,

Peter C

Its a Draw!!! The Sixes won the Canonball Day by 40 points to the Eights 39 points. Since the day was a dail your own time we scored it by awarding points according to how many rounds each car progressed through.

So after the two events we couldn't split the teams and it is very fitting that it is a draw because it will keep the rivalry going for yet another year.

Cheers,
Ken

PS. All the results for the Annual Awards, also presented at the Christmas Party, will be sent out in an Email.

A thousand voices screamed out in anguish and were silent. :ticking:

Well done to both teams!

I'm looking forward to the 2006 6 vs 8 Challenge and rightfully getting that trophy for the 8's team! ;)

To make me feel a little better about the loss on the Cannonball Day, I remind myself that a V8 (and a AU ) did make and win the final. :newangel:
