WHAT!!!!!!!

I have alot to learn about Australia still. I thought this wouldn't be a problem but if thats the case then......WOW we are in for a very long fight.

I have been to many drift races and car shows were they were in a huge parking alot. Truck pulls on parking lots Monster trucks on parking lots and .......well everything else.

Well I wont hold my breathe but that just states even more why they need to get a place for all types of motor sports to occur. I see alot of stuff in Victoria regarding tracks for amateurs that are also professional tracks so I am sure you should be able to have something ATLEAST as good as Vic.

I guess I might really be a fish out of water when it comes to me in Australia.

Hell I know when I finally am able to do my truck it will look like its out of place also. BUT I like being different.

Has a lot to do with public liability insurance, from what I've seen of the drifts in parking lots in the states, there would be no way in hell anyone would want anything to do with organising it here. 140kmh drifts within a couple of metres of a temporary fence with hundreds of people lined behind it, to many people that is just asking for trouble, we know most drifters are very good when it comes to their craft but one mistake could cost countless lives and in this country no one in their right mind would be a party to it. Sorry to dissapoint you, and believe me I wish the scene here was much like the states as then no one could complain, but the only way we can do it is with a sanctioned specific motorsport venue.

Im sure if the pollies took a trip up to QLD and went to Willowbank that they could be convinced of the financial benefits to the state, but because he has already slammed the idea as a hoon haven he wont back down.
There is no point in trying to convince the idea is a good one, but if we convince the public that its great idea then maybe they will vote the pin head out. The ideas that we work on dont have to be grand in scale, we can target swap meets and shopping centres with static displays, sell t-shirts for the rally etc. Theres not enough time to organise large events but we can target large public events that are organised by others. The royal show would have been purfect and so would Palmer rod run and the drive in nite . After a couple of suttle hints on the motorsport st the port website they finally got the hint and want volenteers to help at Gazzanats (dont know if Bob will like that to much but stuff him!) to sell t-shirts and hand out stickers.

Maybe we should have looked into this as a drag strip before it was "given away"!

2500m long x 45 m wide with fully sealed return roads and pit areas. :

Found out today that the sporting car club of SA and that motor cycle club have or are in the final process of buying the Tailem Bend test track from the council. They will be meeting with representatives of the South Australian Drag Racing Association (SADRA) and the Crusauders drag club and ANDRA also other influential members of the drag racing community to work together to get Tailem Bend up and running.

The plan maybe to run as a second grade 1/8th mile track in the begining then as cash flow improves to step up to first grade 1/8th and then quarter mile.

The good news is that everyone is willing to work together to a resalution. They want to let the drag racing community run their own events and fully support ANDRA drag racing at all levels. Events will be low key for a while until funds allow inprovements to be made. Ithink they plan to run as non profit so all profits will be tipped back into the facility.

Weather Adelaide can run two drag racing facilities so close together remains to be seen (thats if Gilman takes off), i think it can especially if T.B. is only 1/8th mile. If both tracks work together in cross promotion it could work out very well but if they keep to their own agendas there could be problems. Competion between tracks could give the fans better bang for their buck but with bigger overheads at Gilman dont expect a day at the races at Gilman to be very cheap.

Drag racing at TB may not be as far away as i thought, so watch this space i will update you all as soon as i here anything.

we need 1 at 1/4mile who cares where.....
2 would be a bonus especially if they are dual purpose, less issues with cost , recovering costs eg circuit etc.

Latest update from Couger Raceway with details of proposed track location;

"PRESS RELEASE 16 - 08 - 2011
Santel International Racing has announced the lodgement of plans with the Greater City of Murray Bridge so as to develop a Drag Racing complex of International standard.
The Company has decided to become involved after the State of South Australia has not had real Drag Racing on a regular basis for some ten years and after looking at the current state of the sport in this State it was decided to do something rather than nothing or presenting some half hearted attempts in the name of Drag Racing.

The complex will operate under the name of Cougar International Raceway. The image of the animal was chosen for two main reason one being the close proximity to the Monarto zoological complex, some 10km to the West and the main reason is because the Company hit on the idea to use a Cougar image because the animal was depicted as WILD, FAST & FURIOUS just like the sport of Drag Racing.

The 200 hectare site is situated on Maurice Road, Monarto South . The site is sign posted and is approximately 45 minutes freeway travel from the city of Adelaide with arterial roads servicing the site for patrons travelling from the River land and the South East. The site has access by freeway exits at Callington, Monarto and Murray Bridge. It is an ideal position and set amongst other forms of motor sport.

The track itself will be of international standard and purpose built for the exacting sport of Drag Racing and capable of hosting 500 competitors in the pit area.

It will be catering for Drag Racing only without the track being a part of a multi faceted track that can not provide a especially prepared surface such as an exacting sport that drag racing requires without interfering with the other disciplines of motor sport. The especially prepared surface is vital to aid the traction and the racers need for speed along with promoters dream of having the quickest ET’s and the fastest speeds posted at this particular venue.

This clash of disciplines has not worked in the past and Santel Racing can not see a benefit of combining various sports on the one surface.

IT IS A DRAG RACING SURFACE FOR DRAG RACERS PERIOD !
The track is the latest legal design of world standard and to be built within the guidleines of ANDRA the governing body of the sport. The racing surface is to be a combination of concrete and hotmix.

Santel Racing has obtained the latest technology from lifelong contacts in America, the origin of the sport, and with a concrete surface especially prepared surface it is expected to be one of the fastest if not the fastest track in Australia. This will be aided by a visit to several major sources to obtain the latest Skills of track preparation.

Santel is now waiting for the process to be conducted be the relevant authorities which is believed to be approximately three months.

Stay tuned to the website for more development news, progress pictures and much more coming your way!...."

Good to hear.

I step at a time. I wont be holding my breathe either but maybe the track will be done by the time I get my truck done. Either way a long time for me.

Back home it all started with a simple lot of land and a 1/4 mile track(or maybe the dirt oval). Then more money came in a now there is Motorcycle track(small) dirt oval, National 1/4 strip, Nationwide Series(Nascar) Oval and a few other events.

I really do need to find some locals to hang with to learn some skillz so I can do almost everything I want on my future vehicle.

The car was a while ago, but Andra requirements for a welded cage changed all that

Only looks stock from the outside now. But is still registered so I can race the Friday nite street meets at Portland if I feel the need.

What can I say, party time

26 August 2011

ANDRA has endorsed a recent "Affiliation" proposal received by Racing ONN Promotions at last weekend's Board meeting held in Sydney.

ANDRA is delighted to announce the return of Drag Racing back to Adelaide. The first few events will be staged over the 1/8thmile, the first event is scheduled for Saturday November 26th 2011.

Racing ONN Promotions, Managing Director, Rino D'Alfonso has confirmed that negotiations with the owner of Adelaide International Raceway are now complete. To all the racers and fans out there who share my passion and enthusiasm, "The Time Has Come", I can now proceed to deliver on my goals for the sport I love so much, right here in Adelaide, said Rino.

ANDRA National Operations Manager, Brenton Myers has confirmed that work has already commenced to address the upgrading and maintenance works necessary for compliance with ANDRA Track Specifications.

Once all necessary improvements are complete a thorough facility inspection will be conducted, subject to compliance, an ANDRA Track Licence will be issued to Racing ONN Promotions in readiness for ANDRA sanctioned events to proceed, initially over the 1/8th mile.

Rino's dedicated and very passionate approach to deliver safe and successful drag racing events back to the City of Churches is an absolute credit to him.

ANDRA looks forward to a very successful partnership with Racing ONN Promotions, said Myers.
