Default 2016 Mondeo woes

Yesterday my diesel Mondeo left for the dealer on the back of a truck.

On starting the car four warnings came up:

"Steering assist malfunction "
"ESC service required"
"Active city stop malfunction"
"Pre collision assist not available"

I am thinking a sensor has failed.

Hopefully, the dealer can look at and fix the problem today. Otherwise with no loan cars available I will have to hire a car to get to work.

The nightmare will start if some obscure part has to come from Europe. I guess now I will have some first hand experience with Ford customer service.

besides the steering malfunction the others have ABS in common so it could be something in that system. Hope it's a quick turnaround good luck...

Just had word from the dealer.

The fault codes are pointing to the steering rack requiring to be replaced. They are now in the process of confirming this. Once confirmed a new rack will be ordered.

How long I will be without a car will depend on where the new part comes from. I'm guessing that the probability of this part bring available in Perth is very slim. In Australia? Who knows?

I'll keep those interested updated.

For your sake I hoped it would be something simple but with the Mondeo being such a high tech vehicle, I'm not surprised that it's going to be a few days to get the problem fully analysed.

If this is the dealer who sold it to you, hopefully you'll be well looked after while the repairs are being carried out.

To keep things moving, I would call them at least twice a day to ask for an update. If you do this, they won't lose you in the crowd. After all they have many cars
and customers to deal with each day and you're just one of them.

Unfortunately the car is not at the selling dealer. The roadside assist only covered towage to the closest dealer.

So far the the dealer has been very positive. At first they advised me that the workshop was fully booked until next week and they would look at my car if they had time. The service adviser told me yesterday that the workshop foreman was looking at my car.

The problem they have is that this doesn't appear to be a common problem with this model so they don't have a lot of information to work with. A Google search doesn't show up any issues with the steering rack on these cars.

As long as they fix the car properly with no further issues I will be reasonably happy. I will have to deal with the inconvenience.

suppose would have been different if it was at the dealer you bought it from, did you approach Ford CRC about putting pressure on the dealer for ANY loan car while their doing repairs on a 2016 vehicle ?

My Mondeo has been fixed.

I got a call from the dealer yesterday to say they have found the problem and rectified it.

The computer codes pointed to the steering rack being the issue. The thinking was that a replacement rack may be necessary but first they wanted to confirm this. While doing this a loose spade connecter to the steering control module was found. This has been resecured and all is good.

A big thank you goes to Mcinerney Ford in Morley. Despite their workshop being booked out they found the time to get my car back on the road as soon as possible.

No loan car is a minor irritant but I understand that they can't always be available. I am in discussions with Ford over reimbursement for rental car costs. So far I'm going to be about $200 out of pocket. And the personal suffering from driving a Hyundai Accent for the last three days.

I thought it very odd that a replacement steering rack was the initial diagnosis...

Great to hear all has been sorted.
Sometimes these little problems occur, but on the bright side, the car has now been fully inspected and should be right from now. These new Mondeo's are pretty awesome cars.
As luck would have it, you ended up at the best Ford Dealer service department in Perth. Did you deal with Daniel? We've purchased and have been taking our cars there for years. Nothing but great things to say about Macinerny Ford.

Most electrical faults are due to connector or power supply issues.

That's great that they found the fault and it was easily rectified.

That's where I go to get my cars serviced, and where I bought my Mondeo from. Great people and great service, I can't speak highly enough of them.

I'm sceptical at most times but I can't think of one area on any modern vehicle that uses a spade connector in the typical sense, I'll put it down to language used.

It does smell of a connection fault doesn't it? So many unrelated things. Are they bullet connectors now Cobrin?

no not bullet, they'd be proprietary connectors similar to deutsch plugs but not limited to which is why I can let it slide lol.

Replacing parts until the problem goes away (at other people's expense) seems to be the modern approach to 'repairs' sadly

Just had a telephone call from Ford Customer Assistance.

They are reimbursing me full reimbursement for the hire car costs while my car was off the road.
