You can look for Peugeot specialists too - same engine as many Peugeots

This thread seems helpful:

Thanks Deka,
Am a frogger (85fuego) and am aware of the engine sharing.
However, there may be an issue with the engine and may be throwing a fault code that is not being shown on the dash?
I suspect the diagnostic software used by the frogs may not be the same as used by the Ford franchise, hence the request.
My thoughts are that a indi specialising in small fords with the factory software will be the way to go other than apprentices at a big dealership?

Hi stefcio007,

2007 2L TDCI.
Sons car.
He says always hard to start on first attempt.
Always starts on second attempt.
Manifests itself during the colder months.
Less than 2 y.o. battery, good charge.

Fuel filter replaced 50k ago, will change next week.
Once I have changed fuel filter will check symptoms again.

May be glow plugs?
These are most likely not been replaced in its life.
Do dodgy plugs throw a CEL on the dash or is that issue one that doesn't have to?

Other than that looking for electronics/other that may be causing the issue.

Thanks

Yep, sounds like a glow plug. Try turning the power on and waiting 30 seconds before starting.

Based in the manual, the glow plugs are kept turned on for 30 seconds after the engine started.

Stefcio007,

No haven't diagnosed the issue.
Still think its the plugs.
Now we have warmer weather, problem not so much an issue.
Till next winter that is.

Do Ford provide a diagnostic service?
I assume the genuine Ford computer will advise non performing plugs?
