From earlier photos posted it looks like the FH will retain the same "outer" lens shape. I guess they can change the bumper so there wont be a dip along the lower line of the light. But it looked like the rear 3/4 metal was unchanged.

looks like GT to me but that doesnt make any sense
whatever it is, why is there a badge in the headlight anyway....bizzare

Still not sure why no XR8 ute.
I could be wrong but the SS is the best selling version of Holden's Ute, so it doesnt make sense that Ford doesnt think its worth it?
Maybe they dont what the V8 being too popular as theres only a limited amount they can build?

But Im going to buy a ute of some sort, either an FH XR6T or VF SS.

Difference between the Ute and Wagon is that Ford already have a Ute and already sell a V8 version of it.

I would've thought that the success of the Ranger has led them to trim down the ute.
Not stirring or anything, but is there anything that makes the Xr ute stand out over a Ranger?

They don't want to spend the money on strengthening the ute to take the 335 for such a short/small run.

Then use the 315 motor...

I think theres more to it IMO.
Either its got to do with the amount of V8s they can build, or if people are going to buy a 2 door V8 Ford then they'd rather them in a Mustang.

Since Ford PR proclaim to be so in tune with Ford enthusiasts on this forum, they can explain to us the logic behind no V8 ute. I certainly can't think of any considering the GS ute was available until not very long ago.

ford go by sales figures. enthusiasts are mostly all talk, or just want to win the bar room arguments. they don't bolster fords bottom line. its the same reason models get axed by most manufacturers. if they aren't selling, then don't build them.

pointing to holden for example and saying 'their xyz model sells, so there is a market' isn't really true. holden just happen to have a bigger customer base and probably a more loyal customer base.

either way, whether you keep many variants, or downsize to the minimum, both business cases have ended the same.

With the XR8 Ute, there is a precedent, Ford restricted the XR8 AU II & III ute to the AU I 200 Kw motor, when the sedan got the hand built 220 Kw engine (huge performance difference). So they would be not inconsistent with heritage if they just used the 315 engine for the XR8 Ute.

Comparison of a sporty yet functional car derived ute with a Truck is as valid as comparing apples with pumpkins.

OK so from a development point of view why cant they carry over all mechanics from the FPV GS 315 Ute to the FH XR8 Ute?

Frontal Aero is the same as any other XR, and if the XR8 sedan is available then thats done.

Crash..well perhaps a case there but structure is the same as the XR6T and is the engine mass not about the same as the I6, probably sits a tad lower?

Emissions..hmm no..FPV GS 315 spec....

The wagon comments are obviously a little off the mark, but the reasoning for the ute is mysterious. You have to ask what makes it unique? The only thing I can think of is its chassis in general, its wagon based? But in saying that the XR6T Ute and every other I6 version is still going so what gives?

IIRC the XR8 Ute used to be a great seller and bolster ute sales.

how many GS utes have you seen on the road?

i don't see heaps of falcon utes in my travels, but i see enough, and 95% of them are xr6.

i also feel the xr8 sedan will also sell quite poorly. i can't help but feel the vast majority of the 'bring back the xr8' cheersquad are not new car buyers.

What I meant was the AUII (from Oct01) and AU III XR8 Sedan got the 220 Kw engine whilst the similar model Ute kept the previous 200Kw engine. Both similar model XR8s - with different engines.

Assuming the XR8 Sedan gets the GT 335 engine - which has already been certified for the sedan (unlike the ute), there must be other reasons, why they do not carry over the GS 315 Ute.

You still flying that flag since Flappy has gone. Lets face it the whole series wont sell well because of the model ending "fear".

I dont actually keep a look out in general and dont carry a counter so Im afraid I cant give you an accurate answer. Im sure someone can hunt down some VFACTS.

And while they are at it then they could perhaps look back through A and B series and see if the XR8 ute actually outsold the XR8 sedan, I wouldnt be surprised if it did. I have just as much evidence to back that up than anyone else.

Again, just trying to clarify a reason why it will not be available as it shouldnt add any additional cost to what has already been paid for?

Fact that they are probably lucky to sell 30 GS utes a year at present?

They would still have to test the XR8 ute for things like ADR and fuel economy, which is probable why they are not doing it.

either way, it doesn't really matter. ford have more data than both of us combined, and they concluded that xr8 ute was a no go.

I love it when people snip just the bits they want, it was in reference to your comment suggesting that the XR8 Ute wouldnt sell well, historically I think you will find % wise it did quite well against the sedan.

Also comparing it to the GS is a long bow as the GS name never really carried much weight with current buyers, the XR series is far stronger than GS, those who were buying a FPV V8 with a touch of nostalgia would go the GT regardless of the price difference. Granted they had little choice if they wanted a V8 ute.

Regardless, it would take the most passionate Ford buyer to get a GS ute when the SS kills it in most regards, and its not like the payload/capacity is a factor with these as its typically younger blokes who buy them. The amount of SS utes on the road is sickening, but Im sure the faithful management at FoA are all over that and everything is fine.

An LPG Territory wouldnt be that excitable with gas at the price it is now.

It think they should have went 4.0 Petrol and 2.7 Diesel and stuck that in Falcon aswell, forgetting about Ecolpi and Ecoboost.

A 2.7 Diesel Falcon would fly and you would see highway economy in the high 5's.

All drivetrains from FG carry over to FH. Apparently there will be modest fuel economy gains.

Not this little black duck.... Deposit ready. But then again, I have just been quietly waiting and thankful I am in a position to treat myself to one. As it is the end of the V8 Falcon line I'm lining up (aparently I am one of about a dozen that have registered their interest at my local Ford Dealer) for the last V8 ones made. Over the last 28 years of my driving experience I have personally owned 11 Fords. Seven of them Falcons, two bought brand new. This one will make three and I am buying it for the main reason it will be both the last one made and SC'd out of the factory. Not big on two door coupes, I need four doors.

It will join the XR50T in the driveway, but it will be a manual so SWMBO wont constantly harrass me for a drive...

2.7 is just fine, its "old tech" just like our I6 is but it still kicks butt. A TDi Falcon would have been amazing, the vast majority of mid/large EU cars I see (no counter) as TDi.

It removes any negatives about LPG and negates any ill feelings about capacity in one hit. It would have done what it did to the Tez to the Falcon.
