RIP mate.

I pity people who dont have thaty connection with pets, in particular dogs.

As 'God said to the dog';

I have left you to the end, and spelt my name back to front and called you Dog my friend.

Mate, sorry for the loss. You made me tear up with that. It's hard losing a member of the family like that. I guess you can feel happy and proud for the mateship you formed and the fact that both of you felt loved by one another.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my old kelpie of 15 years a couple months ago and it's still hurts. They are a better friend than most people and will always be there for you.

RIP Bon, I'm sure you have many fond memories to comfort you.

Way to make me tear up like a little girl. I'm sorry for the loss of ya best mate. It's amazing how close you get to your dog. The unquestioning love & affection they give is amazing, moreso than the non canine members of your family. RIP Bon.

Dave you pulled that right out of your heart and translated it perfectly...that could make Chopper Read teary. Coincidentally our 15yr old Maine Coon kitty I gave a pat on my way to work yesterday, quick purr from him and I drove off. Came home and he was lying dead under the Territory. Buried him before the kids could find out.

RIP to Bon mate....and yes, look up Rainbow Bridge. The vet sent it to us when the kitty in my avatar (18 mths old died a number of months ago) died. It really says it all.

Sorry to hear of your loss Dave, Bon looked like a great pooch. I too know the pain of losing a dog, they're not just a dog but a member of the family and one of your best friends. If you need to talk I'm just a text away.

Auslandau be thankful Bonnie died naturally, i had to put down my 16 year old german sheppard, first he had a stroke then we had him on steroids got another 6 months then one morning he couldn`t get up his front left paw had swollen to the size of a fist, vet came over said his back legs are weak his front leg is swollen it`s cruel to keep him alive.

It was on my birthday kept him going for a week with nappies and the only thing he would eat was greek biscuits. Then we called the vet to give him the injection at home and he now restsin my backyard. Tore my heart out we did, i have a 7 year old german sheppard now, great dog but still miss my prince.

sorry to hear mate...lost my german shepherd just over 2 years ago to a snake bite,(3 days before christmas it was). i'm not sure which is worse, seeing them get old & know it's coming...or the sudden shock of loss, but not worrying before hand.
had to sell the car i had at the time, her emergency trip to the vet in the back seat was the last time i saw her...couldn't clean the hair out, just sold it.

man's best friend for sure

Really sorry to read this Dave and I am dreading the next time I have to go through this. We know we will probably outlive many of our pets but that knowledge never prepares us, for the reality when it comes.

Here is Rainbow Bridge:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

Big hugs from both of us.

You have my deepest condolences. As a previous dog breeder & shower, I know how this can take a toll on you. We have lost many friends over the years, champions, rescues, & all time favorites. But the biggest loss was in 2009, when the "old man" (the title passed down to the oldest living male dog in the household), my Keeshond "Ceasar" finally decided to move on. Its the ony time I have seem my dad cry, when we carried him into the vets. Not bad 16/112 yr old. I guess it was more emotional knowing that he was the last of the Keeshonds, we owned after we stopped breeding them.

The only good thing is, that I will never have to worry about him again. Every winter for about 5 years, I was always worried he wouldnt make it to spring. Even before he passed, I always said that I would not get another dog for quite some time. & it had to be another Keeshond or a Huskie. And I'm sticking to it.

However, waiting may not be a good way to heal, getting another puppy of the same breed, will make you realise that love isnt just for one dog.....

I'm an animal lover... and *sigh*, reading what you wrote made me cry... so well put.

It's always difficult to lose a family member because to me, pets are more than "just a pet." You shared 16 wonderful years together, and you will always carry her memory with you in your heart. ~forever~

Take care, and remember Bon is always with you. R.I.P.

Just wanted to thank you for posting "Rainbow Bridge." It's the first time I've read it and now I can't stop crying as I remember the pets (all my best friends) I grew up with. All the memories come flooding back you know?

But a huge thanks to you, and hope everyone who reads this is as comforted as I feel now. Thanks. *sigh*
