Not my cup of tea, mostly because I haven't got 165k to blow on a car.
But to the nay sayers/baggers, Get a life! This would be awesome even if it does wear a Holden badge.

Respect the power and performance, but wow, 165k for a car that looks like an explosion in a plastic factory.
Think I might have to pass.

It would be bloody hard to walk past some other cars if you had that coin. But then again you will be able to buy those later if you wish, the last HSV will only go up in value long term you'd think so might be the cheapest you will get it.

I doubt anyone is bagging the performance on offer. The price is the problem.

A $165K Falcon or Commodore is pretty irrelevant to your average wage earner in Aus, that have been Holden's bread and butter since day dot. Nice halo car for a car which will no longer need a halo in 2018. The VFII Redline is/was a better 'present' 'gift' to those people, fantastic car for the money and attainable. Nothing wrong with the car I'm sure it'll be a cracker albeit a expensive one, just Dowlings language irks me.

What will really make it worth $165k is the technology and how it handles. No point having that much power if you can't put it down. I would expect an overhauled chassis, latest suspension, upgraded brakes, upgraded transmission (8spd auto possibly)

Plus it's the name that people will pay for too. The last hoorah for the commodore.

If you are just approaching the equation from the "price per kw" point of view, then you may as well buy a new LSA Clubsport for $85 and spend $30k and you will have a 600kw animal.
Agree with this. It is expensive but will be well worth it if you can afford it and will be much more than a modified LSA clubby..

Too rich for me.
I agree. The luxury car tax threshold is $63,184. For every dollar over this, which includes the dealer delivery charge, the tax is calculated at 33%.

I can't imagine a dealer will discount any delivery fees and miss out on profit so let's say the dealer charges $5k for delivery (they might even charge more perhaps?).

Car $165k plus $5k delivery = $170k. This means LCT is calculated on $106,816 which is the difference between $170k and the $63,184 threshold.

The LCT bill for this car is $35,249. Add this to the $170k and now you're up for $205,249. Still haven't paid for rego or insurance or plates yet!!

Pretty wicked car though.

The article read as the GTS will be made in basic form in Adelaide, then shipped to HSV for an engine transplant with the LS9. Does that mean each new car will come with a spare backup LSA engine??........ha ha ha.....!!
I've been a Ford guy through and through all my life, but with no FPV on offer, these do look like a pretty awesome package, but probably not worth the cash at the end of the day......

I love the biased reporting! I love how he tries to sneak a hint in there that they didn't sell because the "Global Financial Crisis took hold", rather than just be honest and admit that the general public just did not want to pay $155,000 for a Commodore, it literally is that plain and simple, whether the "global financial crisis" came or not people still had money to spend, just not on an over priced Commodore.

It's pretty amusing though, considering the XR8 next year will be reborn with the same spec engine as the FG GT, could you imagine being a HSV owner forking out all that money on a brand new GTS, then pulling up to the lights next to a FH XR8 and then sitting side by side all the way to 100 and beyond
Even more embarrasing would be the lower spec variants of the VF in HSV's stable getting whopped by a factory XR8.

Good on HSV, I have no love for their cars but certainly can appreciate the engineering and dedication to give the public the cars. They bend the figures sure and certainly have more capital but they certainly know how to stick it to the bean counters and greenys. The current GTS could have just had the LSA transplanted in but they went the extra mile and built the rest of the car around it. I have no doubts that they will do the same with this new one. They will take a standard GTS and improve on what they can. I would expect maybe 8piston calipers up front, huge wide rear tyres as well as a bespoke new look. I hate knowing in my heart that they can do that and Ford cant, the red team get exactly the send off we should have got here in the blue camp rather than Fords limp wristed efforts. Forgetting the price and even the total power figure for me its the fact that HSV have gone and built a last ditch hero car. Would have loved to have seen Ford do the same. I wouldn't have been able to buy one but at least I would know it existed and there was always hope if I won the lottery.

The Falcon going out with a whimper may be disappointing, but at least the performance side will taken by the Mustang. Conversely I'm not sure what Holden will have post 2017.

we all knew holden would out trump any final falcon offerings & I take my hat off to any everyday holden owners who can cough up the coin for one & enjoy it, tbh if I was in the market for one & I did consider it tbh I reckon from hearing that i'd just go a GTS & modify it for my power needs & still have change.

The LS9 HSV offers far better value than the W427 that sold for around the same coin when all you got was a 7litre V8 in a poverty pack Commodore.

I do agree though it’s a bit pricey for the average punter but I also thought the same for the LSA GTS & GT-F.

It’s amazing what can be done performance wise with a twin turbo V6 these days.

It’ll never replace a V8 for old fashion me but I can see tyre fryers being available if GM Holden wish to go down that route with maybe HSV turning up the screws.

I congratulate HSV on going out with a bang.

Ford finished off with some nice machinery and two beautiful engines although in factory form are held back considering the options available in the Ford Racing parts bins. But definitely very capable and worth every cent.

A GT-HO would of been nice, but how would we feel if the GT-F or similar had of been a HO then HSV raised the bar knocking it off its perch. All of a sudden the HO isn't king and the name is tarnished.

As for the price tag, I am sure die hard HSV owners will scramble to order one, just as as Ford fans would if a GT-HO was released with a heavy price tag.

If we are talking same price tag for a GTHO with a Ford Racing Cobra Jet engine setup and big power they would walk out the door.

165 grand? with high po VE on holdens the design work is already done, the parts are already tested and in production fitted on other GM vehicles like Cadillac's and Camaro's, so basically parts bin specials (awsome parts bin btw)
i cant understand the nearly 2x prices,

brain fart lol, small production volume = high cost price per unit

Not worth it. A premium of $10-20k over a GTS maybe.....but not that much.

Good on Holden for this send off
If I won the lotto I would want to get my hands on one as I am saddened of the passing of Aussie made muscle cars.
Glad I am a Ford fan though as there final send off was within my budget

Expensive I know and I wouldn't pay that for it, but how can you say it isn't worth it?
I am sure there are costs associated with putting the LS9 into the car (a cost of getting buying the engine in the first place). Crash testing I am assuming needs to be done?
We don't know what other changes have been made to the car. Then they HAVE to make money on it, so there would be a premium for that too.

I'll bet that the engine won't cost more than a couple of grand premium over the LSA, especially through GM's channels, and for 46 KW difference in power I doubt whether much will change driveline-wise.

They will top and tail it and stick some extra embellishments inside, and that will be it. W427 number 2.

Happy to be proven wrong.
