coincidently I was talking to a mate on the weekend about the next GT to be stripped of it's luxuries (Grand tourer not Gay Toy) and suited for track less open pipes and cage. It should be NA with 351KW and manual only.

I love my GT (ask my wife) but a diesel falcon ute would be a great lease vehicle to drive to work.

Cough.. Cough.. and people need to wake up and realise FoA aren't interested in bringing back a retro Coupe.. Would be a mere resemblance of an old Coupe anyway with compliance to all the 5 star crash BS etc.... Go buy a new Coupe shell and build your own if you want a NEW one that bad......

Now you're talking!! It would be far more important than a diesel sedan. However, I'd love to see a diesel/lpg dual fuel system.

As much as I would love to see any of the options listed, they would end up being the last salvo before the company folded. A locally made deisel to replace the I6 which will be gone soon would save the Geelong engine plant.

Everything else is a 14 year olds wet dream that will bankrupt the company :

You'd think a car that looks heavy, like the XB Coupe, would actually be heavy, but they only weigh 1400kg.

That's about 200 - 250 kg less than a standard family car on the roads today. Mind you, if they had crumple zones, ABS, airbags and anti-intrusion they would no doubt be around the 1800kg mark.

Hopefully Ford could do something about the common rust spots as well.

They'll never bring back a coupe - it's just too much of a niche market. Holden's modern Monaro only sold OK - not great, and the Ford would be no different. Would be nice to see though.

I voted for the re-run XA-XC Coupe. An all new FG Coupe could be the go though.

Obviously all pie in the sky stuff but what could be do-able is:
1. Import and convert Mustangs as per Tickford did in '01/02. The current Mustang is as sexy as all hell. I think it'll do well.
2. Configure the Coyote motor to a genuine 351 cubic inch capacity and having it available only in GT/GT-P. Imagine being able to buy a proper 351GT again!!

I read somewhere the Coyote could be configured to a range of capacities including 351. Why limit it to a 5 litre??

Yeah but what diesel are you thinking of?

How about the 3.0 twin Turbo unit from the XF Jaguar, that baby
does 0-100 kph in 6.4 seconds and averages 6.8 litres/100 klm...


Not trying to convince you but there are diesels and then there are diesels.
I do think the future is with DI Turbo Ecoboost engines though, there's probably just
as much efficiency available with petrol plus a stack more power compared to diesel...

An FG coupe may be more sustainable than XA-XB retro coupes, but it still won't be sustainable.

Coupes are impractical and given that the large car market is minute compared to what it was in the past, it isn't worth the money.

As I said before, Ford needs to keep playing it smart.

Probably what Ford shouldnt do, but Id like to see;

- Geelong casting V8s again. And those V8's will be all alloy, DI, VVT (blah blah, etc etc) pushrod dinosaurs in displacements no less than 5.8L. Or alternatively, just start up a local crate engine plant making good ol' Ford V8s.

- Falcon Coupes, whether its FG or not. 'Nuff said.

As for something more sensible, as we know the base model/cheaper car market is no longer the dominion of Ford and Holden. So, the upmarket (midrange i suppose) is the area Ford should be pushing more. Give people more of what they want in that price range, otherwise theyre just gonna keep lapping up hyundais and kias. Or go nuts and shell out for a base model luxo-import. Get rid of the stigma of a "cheaper" car with a "too large" price tag.

BTW, TheInterceptors idea sounds awfully like Holdens' Adventura....

While I'd love to see an FG coupe like already pointed out repeatedly it's just not economically viable, aussies aren't big on coupes. Theres not even that many available in the small car range, and 3 door hatches are even rare in small/medium cars sold here. Retro-ing the XA/B/C wont work IMO and I'm a big fan of them. I wish I never sold my XA coupe even though it was a lump of rusty garbage.

Diesel ute? Um Ranger. They are actually bloody good, comfortable cars for commercials.

Trimming some weight out of the Falcon would be my first choice. Apart from that I think FOA are actually doing a pretty good job at the moment. They have a great lineup of new products about to be released; Ecoboost 4, diesel Terry, Coyote and great transmissions in the ZF and 6spd manual. All they need is better build quality and materials (my BA is starting to get woeful for a 4 year old car) to lift their reputation.

Given the choice i wouldnt by any of these even if they appeared. Ford Racing 800hp 351 in my BA and supercharge the .... Breasts off it.
