I actually read the first response you deleted. it wasn't worth responding to.

your post said v8 Kakadu. thats not a 100 series is it? .. Kakadu replaced the Grande badge on Prados only.

not denying the fact I have 2 diesels and many others do is one of the reasons, I think your getting my original point mixed up. and have turned this into something else. so I'm out

sorry no pic look up Lexus GX series for the V8 dont think they were even sold here

At least there will be plenty of spare parts available.
I read a bit on these ecoblue engines, they apparently they use a belt driven oil pump which has riled the critics .. time will tell I guess.

Default Re: 2018 Ranger Raptor

I think we have all been misled when Ford attached the 'Raptor' badge to this vehicle. To clarify the ensuing confusion, one of Ford's engineers have admitted it should be seen more as a 'baby' Raptor.

Since that would look silly as a decal, I think Ford should have made their intentions clear from day one, by calling it the Ford Ranger BMX.

Instead they have left potential owners, who probably were keenly looking forward to this vehicle because of the high performance that its name suggests, feeling betrayed.

Thinking they were getting the real deal, they have now instead been presented with an expensive toy version which, while driving it, they can imagine what the real Raptor might be like, and hoping that one day they might be able to experience it for themselves.

That day might come sooner than they expect because, as we know, toys don't last long, and before you know it, they need to be replaced (at a cost).

I'm sure most owners aren't looking for durability, so it shouldn't be too much of a concern if the engine blows after 150k. It'll be a great excuse for rich owners to upgrade, while leaving the next poor owner to sort out any problems.

Ford, I like your thinking... Good for business

Engine responds very well to mods, but auto gearbox can become unsettled trying to cope with the extra torque. Good fuel economy overall: 9-12L/100km city, 8L/100 country.

Perhaps there are plans to offer more than one engine down the road. The F150 Raptor started out with a 310hp 5.4. Then switched to a 410hp 6.2. Then a 450hp 3.5EB. Next there is a 7.0 V8, well I hope that’s true.

Anyway, I’m thinking the US version of the Ranger Raptor will get an EcoBoost V6, and then Australia might get that as an option.

More than likely as it's quite common in competition stuff, some Mercedes AMG's have it marked as part of the steering wheel furniture.

Guess the same thing can be said to all the people saying it's amazing or good enough? You can't know if it's good enough until you drive it.

SO delete this thread, ban anyone who creates a Ranger Raptor thread until most AFF members have had a drive then we will allow the thread to continue.

Seriously it will sell. Just look at all the people mostly on Facebook saying "Wow looks so cool, I'm gonna get one"
Hardly anyone commenting on the technical spec unless it's the tiny engine.
The people who think it looks cool would be better off buying the Cheapest Ranger on sale and doing the old Ebay special to make it look cool.

The specs look pretty good. Like they've designed it to go off road. But I dunno. That's one ****y underpowered engine.

I get what the engineer is saying. About how it's got all this great suspension and whatever, but that'd be like putting racing gear on a 2l corolla ascent.

Without the grunt it goes to waste.

But am happy to be proven wrong once there's some test drives.
Maybe I'll win lotto before they get released and I can buy one.

I dunno about you blokes, but, I reckon a constant 500nm of torque enabled by a 10 speed auto will keep it in that sweet spot which will make an awful lot of difference to the experience. Engine durability won't be a problem either IMO given that it won't be revving its guts out very much (if at all actually).

The sad thing about Ford's decision to use this small engine is that it has completely overshadowed all the effort that has gone into the vehicle as a whole.

Most of the comments on this thread have centred on the engine. And yet there has been some pretty major improvement and additions that are being glossed over. Things like an all new and class benchmark 10 speed auto, great looking seats, larger all disk brakes and a major suspension overhaul using quality name brand components all overshadowed by Ford deciding that 2.0 diesel would be enough.

Now Ford is spending its time and effort defending the decision in the media rather than talking up what is a rather important model for them.

And the thing is this is the Ranger Flagship with a healthy mark up. I fail to understand why the 3.0 V6 Diesel couldn't have been justified at the price they will ask for it.

10 speed will be a big positive. Imagine constant 550nm+ from a V6 diesel.

Seriously I need to stop with the engine. We all know it's adequate to drive to work and the shops which is what most buyers will be doing.

Side note, it's funny how the goal posts keep moving on forums and comment sections.
The 2.0L rumour comes out and we hear "Wait to it's official before commenting on it"

The official 2.0L release comes out now we hear "Wait until you drive it before commenting"

Next we will drive it and it will be "Wait until you have lived with it for 15 years and done 500,000kms before commenting"
What's next after that?

I think one of the hurdles in their engine choice is USA.

The f-150 casts a shadow over it and because of Ford's one Ford policy when it suits them it is once again hurting us.

Make no mistake though, this thing will eat an Amarok on dirt. The veedub won't know which way it went.

For those who want to tow....this is most definitely not the car for you.

Beauty - evening session.

Nothing will touch this off-road - period. A 210hp twin turbo diesel will not be stressed through a 10 speed auto, won’t happen. It will be on song the whole time.

Brilliant ‘truck’. Can’t wait to see it in the flesh. I was a little disappointed with the towing but realise you can’t have big tow capacities with what it’s set up and built for.

I’m definitely interested.

Why wouldn’t the people praising it buy it????? Where else we gunna discuss and praise it - in a Kia forum? There will be people here that will buy it.

they missed the mark thats for sure - like doing a commodore gts with racing slicks/racing suspension/racing seats/racing steering wheel with a red mark/ racing aero package and then puting a 2ltr 4 banger in it and telling us we are all stupid for missing the point - that it is all about the handling on a race track.

we'll guess what, no one drives them on race tracks. no one drives raptors through the simpson desert on a regular basis (and if your going to do jumps you'll want a support car because its not unbreakable). 99.999999% of these will be driven on normal roads.

I live on 10km of dirt track - and even dont buy a dune buggy to go to work in because the other 50km is tar.

I would be the first person to buy a raptor - would be great but not so i get blown away by a eb falcon taxi. those larger tyres will also slow things down and the 10 speed might help the 0-100 time but once you run through those tighly spaced gears you are in slug town over 100kmph

I have a neighbour with a f150 raptor - I beat him home every time i come across him ............. because when i see him on the bitumen i over take him and once you are behind some one on dirt road you are stuffed.

and its not like every one is winging that it doesnt have a 450kw v8 - just that it has a 157kw 4 cyl - seriously in a car weighing well over 2 tonne and calling it a performance vehicle - i dont think so .

reminds me of when VB dropped their alcohol percentage to save on the tax. Only time i ever sent a letter of complaint. Told them that they were wrong and it was a cop out - they told me i was wrong (i guess all their customers were wrong) and how did that end up for them.

the engineers and the friendly jurno's can keep telling people like me that i dont understand the car - well guess what, i suggest they dont understand their customers and in the end the sales will prove who was right.

the sad thing is, if this fails, the accountants will then knock a real raptor on the head because this one didnt sell.

Well it looks good though if you said Raptor I wouldn't associate a 4 banger with it. It may or may not be a tough sell but I guess we will see.

How many 4 Cylinder Falcons did they sell compared to the 6/8?

What Mustang sells more, the 4 or the 8?

After reviewing the data, here is the man that made the final decision on the choice of Engine.
