it all seems to be getting a bit off topic.
maybe someone should start a rwd vs awd vs fwd thread.

the 3 main reasons people dont buy the falcon are in my personal opinion

1- the build quality isnt there, yes i know they will do 500,000+km but they constantly wear out diff bushes, door actuator, him modules, rose joint, shock bushes etc etc and dont get me started on rattles

2- people dont want a car thats immediatly related to a taxi, it make them seem cheap and lower class, sure a g6e or fpv are nice but at the end of the day they are a tarted up taxi

3- initial purchase price and resale value, why pay 40k for an xr6 when 2 years late youl be lucky to get 15k on trade in.

this is just my opinion. try not to flame me. im a ford fan as well but i reckon ford australia need to support us more if they want us to support them.

1. That is true of any manufacturer. There is always room for improvement. But using high quality parts would relate to your point 3. Haven't noticed the rattling in the later versions.

2. Well with no more Taxi Pack.... Ford is working on it. The new styling updates should help more too.

3. How about 25k for an around four/five year old Beemer that cost over 120k? I agree that buying into a Falcon is an investment. 50k+ for a delivered XR6 LPi Falcon Mk II with luxo pack. Why does EcoLPi cost a whole extra grand just for XR6?

Ford could meet buyers in the middle.

Touch screen aside, the tech in a falcon isnt even near the same as mondeo but its getting there though.
Ask Apple Inc why!!!

Ask any Gen Y if they'd pick touch screen over the other crap the mondeo has.. They'll pick touch screen everytime!!!

i own an xr4, which is much smaller than the xr5, and i have no issues at all parking, the turning circle again is not the best, but i also disagree with your steering theory, i have owned this car and the newest fiesta, and also an older barina GSi, all different categories of fwd, and none of them have had any sense of "disconnected" steering

and i have also owned a crummydore, and i have to admit i have more fun in the fwd, but then again its all opinionated, on what a person favors, i enjoy fwd for the twisties and handling and hills, where as u would like the rwd for drift or drag... the boring stuff imo

no one buys falcons cause they depreciate in value too much

I will concede with Crummydore. My brother sold his VS and the steering felt elastic.

But I would buy a RWD for the "twisties and handling and hills". Not for drifts and drag.... you've lost perspective there.

well bring ur falcon up to the hills, bet u cant go as fast around the bents as my xr4, like the last falcon that attemted to outrun us in the hills, ended up running off the cliff, so i guess he felt the "disconnected" steering?

and being it said, that most perspective drift and drag people always choose rwd, hence no lost perspective

That's because it's the only drivetrain layout suited to the task... but not limited to.

Not surprised someone trying to keep up in a much heavier car "ran off the cliff". Neither of you were professional or even amateur racing drivers.

But let's drop this subject as it's not entirely related to the thread other than FWD for a large car is complete nonsense.

No.
You have no idea what a decent FWD car is like so until you see what they are like your opinion is null and void. Simple.
Small FWD cars are a BIG reason why the Falcon doesnt sell.

Edit- Im not saying my XR5 is faultless either before people say i hate the Falcon, id love to see it survive but i wont buy one as i dont need it.

You just said Small FWD. The key word there being Small.

Are you trolling? Is it appropriate for a mod to troll?

Nope im not, im stating my opinion with experience to back it up.

Also i think the definition of small has changed, compared to what it was 10 years ago.

Yes it has... and the large has grown too. Think about that. Think about an almost two metre wide Taurus E segment car.

You are right they have gotten smaller.. Well in my opinion that have anyway. I used to own an EB Foulcan and the later models feel smaller inside look smaller outside but have beefier gaurds to try to make it look like it is bigger without actually being bigger. JMHO

We recently went shopping for a replacement for my wife's FWD 4 door

Drove a whole bunch of stuff, including Euro, Japanese and Korean. You can't tell the difference between FWD and RWD until you get into it and the torque steer is still there.

Euros have fantastic engineering and quality and so does Kia (Wouldn't have said that a couple of years back)

Ended up with a 1 year old G6 - because it was better value than all of them, felt as solid as most of the Euros (except MB), had heaps of go and has a great ride. Couldn't go past it at $23K

Found the Mondeo didn't offer anything over the Falcon, and was more difficult to see out of, Focus has heaps of room but ride was a bit jittery, BMW 3 on runflats has horrible ride and 1 series is smaller than Focus. The two that surprised me were Kia Sportage and Kia Optima - but engines lacked torque.

I think there is a perception, fueled by our illinformed media, that the Falcon is big is thirsty and it is going to cost a lot more to run - which hasn't been proven to be true in NRMA cost of ownership surveys. Maybe the injected LPG Falcon will change that perception, but I think it is probably too late

Ford US explained a while back why they are going FWD internationally

lower cost of manufacture
more parts sharing
easier to meet fuel consumption goals

There was no mention of driveability or the pleasure of the driving experience

Well lets start talking about driveability and driving pleasure then shall we... Or better yet lets take it to the track and see what has better driveability...

No idea - look up Wheels or Modern Motor. My comparison of options was all based on fleet discount.

Over 50% of Commodore and Falcon sales are fleet

I would be quitting the off topic chat ....... will not spend the time deleting crap that has nothing to do with the Topic but will just delete those that would rather bang on about their own opinion without listening to others.

Getting really childish and some really pathetic arguments .......

Thanks .... Signed: The local Forum Bogan

Now back to topic ..... which isn't JUST a FWD vs RWD discussion and mine is better than yours.

Sorry only saw the post now aulandu.

Could it be that consumer confidence in aussie cars is at a all time low? People are just simply not interested in buying the aussie icons as they once where.

As a young nerd i have raced in video game simulations with fwd, rwd and awd and 4wd because i am a young idiot.

On the road it does matter, especially in the wet.
