Default Is This legal?

I usually take a walk, either late in the afternoon or early evening and have noted of late a late model BMW (don’t know the model) and a late model Chrysler 300C having amber running lights (parking lights) on the front. Possibly the same spec as the US models. I thought it was illegal in OZ to have anything but white light at the front. Many years ago I had a 71 HQ two door which had the blinker and parker light (white) in the front bumper, 72 or73 the parker light went into the headlight and the blinker lens became amber. I among many used to put the later model lens in the early model blinker housing and have amber running lights at night, looked cool but the boys in blue threatened to defect if I didn’t rectify the lights back to normal.
Last night after my latest walk (all right I’m getting old) I looked closely and could not see a vehicle like the BMW or the Hemi as noted above, any thoughts?

Thanks Dash, but these lights are small and not bright, just like parkers but amber?

Trucks are allowed orange or white lights facing forward. But red only to the rear.

Yeah I think you are allowed to use yellow as any kind of fog light but may depend on state.

On the Chrysler they are on the side. Well the one I owned had them on the side. Not sure about new ones. But I thought they were considered marker or clearance lights and were allowed on vehicles over a certain size. I never had any problems with cops.

Ford Raptor has 3 orange lights on the grill.

Orange or white at the front is fine.

It's red & blue that will get you into serious trouble.

Those colours being reserved for emergency vehicles and of course the police themselves.

Yes,I saw a late model Jeep Wrangler the other day and it had what looked to be round orange park lights which I thought was odd.

It's a yank thing isn't it...

The stang has orange markers at the front and red at the rear (sides) plus the orange parkers.

And the Raptor was required to have them due to it being so damn wide.

3 in the grill and 1 at each of the outer extremities, plus amber parkers.

ADR states white parkers at front only, orange is illegal.

That's why I asked, as far as I know the ADR's have not changed. I believe trublu's right!

Correct, as per ADR 13 park lights must be white - but they can be amber if the light is reciporically incorporated with an indcator light.

i.e. the indicator bulb and park lights have separate bulbs, but they share a light lens and lamp body.

^ I think 6k headlights are illegal too btw..

Damn they come up with some stupid rules, no wonder people ignore them.

If I read correctly that would cover the majority of cars made in the last 20 years or so though wouldn't it?

Have a read of this topic, (http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11436415) it might explain to you why 6k lights are illegal with good reasons.
ADR does have valid reasons.

Wow..... if I understand that correctly my customizing of my HQ 2 door lights all those years ago would now be legal. Now of to get another 2 door
BTW saw a late model Range Rover last night with these lights, expect to see more in the future I suppose

How many of us looked at that picture of the front of the 'Stang and took a while to concentrate on what colour the lights were?

Reading WHYs reply made me think
back in 1968 I had a Mk2 Zephyr (I wish I still had it )
anyway it had a red light in the rear screen with the letters STOP on it
I was pulled up by the cops and told to remove it as you were
not allowed to have an odd number of stop lights 20 years on its all OK
also I had to remove the single quartz hallogen spot light from the front
for the same reason having an odd number of lights

My example of an old 2 door would not be legal as the lights could been seen only from the front but not the side. Live and learn, never stop!

Can definately be seen from front and side, and has been designed with that intention I'd say.
