Default Buying a mkII cortina

Hi All,

I've always loved the MkII Cortina and thinking about purchasing one to use as a weekender.

I'm not going to throw lashing of money at it and don't want it to be a show car or anything but will slowly spend time fixing it up and playing around.

One thing I'm a little worried about is the lack of performance. Obviously being a 40+ year old car I'm not expecting much at all. I'm not at all familiar with the engines or the car.

If I were to get a MkII cortina and throw the normal exhaust, cam and carby mods at it what sort of performance would I be looking at?

Is it too much to expect it to get near a standardish e-series falcon?

Not looking for a world of performance but don't want to end up struggling to drive it around hills and stuff.

Thanks for the help and sorry if it sounds a bit stupid. I'm currently saving up for one and want to get as much info as I can.

Hey mooseman check out this site
http://www.cortina-mk1.com/
there is a great forum on there as well.
I think you would not get the Kw output of a Falcon, but the power to weight & handling are great fun when set up right, & could out run the larger Falcon up a tight run. enjoy.

Someone was telling me the current base model Falcon put out as much power as the original standard GTHO....and the current model stops much better too. Believable given 40+years development.
You could expect it to be able to keep up with modern traffic.
