Default Drag racing

i was wondering how people launch off the line when at the drags , expecialy in manuals.

Ive tried all sorts of things and was wondering what other people do.

especially do you use traction control or not ?

About 1500rpm, progressively feed clutch out and hope to find the very elusive balance between wheel spin and bogging.

I'd say you need closer to 3000rpm, slip the clutch slightly.

3000rpm may be a bit high with an average track, and it will axle tramp like a mongrel too. My gt-p was quickest at 1500rpm feeding the clutch in. It would bang once or twice, then get going. It was quite difficult though, and i only ran a 13.7 once in about 16 passes.

With Mickey Thompsons I dial up about 4000rpm, let the clutch out half way then slip the clutch to balance wheel spin out to shift point. No tramp and a surge as you release the clutch :

Yeah - that's with mickey t s. He is asking about street tyres.

Traction control off by the way.

Best way for me on street tyres is to slip the crap out of the clutch with a heap of revs,but doing that with a stock clutch you will burn it up first go,
I would slip it with minimal revs and once the car is moving let the clutch out and GO..

cheers guys , after the exhaust go's on (hopefully next week) than a z or x grip will be put in , so no more stock clutch for long.

a set of Micky t's wouldn't go a stray as well

Turbo would be alittle different to N/A engine.. Some load will bring on spool and alittle clutch slip to prevent wheelspin on turbo ... Hard on clutch though...

That's way quicker than i can get! I tried 3000rpm launches and went up in smoke every time. Maybe your tracks are a lot stickier.

I found that the trick was the half release of the clutch, not a full dump, then the gradual release. It is hard on the clutch though. My standard clutch struggled big time. The upgraded one still cops a battering, but stands up well run after run.

I tried the ease it out method - it works really well on a high powered road bike, but it just arc it up or tramped until i thought the back end would cry enough!

Good call Tony, too much slip with the std clutch and it will go up in smoke, and remeber no wheel spin is the key, you will find driving off like grandpa (minimal revs) it will reap better times, you will be suprised. And make sure you keep good speed on gear changes, a big enemy in the manual slow clunky changes can really hirt you mph and ET.
