Default Looking for a eco car but what to buy?

I sold the ute last night *tear* to buy somthing small and economical so when I get my P's I don't have to drive my pride and joy every where (eg: parking it at a party with 60 drunk dick heads I don't know.)

My budget is around the $1500 mark.
I want somthing economical that can take a good thrashing I don't really care what it is.

Any suggestions?

RWD or FWD? Your not gonna have alot of choice with $1500.

Early 90's camry, had one for my first car and that thing copped an absolute thrashing, was paddock bashed, towed a fully loaded car trailer up a dirt hill and through paddocks with me driving and 4 passengers. Aside from a little panel damage and a fuel leak after trying to go over a steep dirt mound towing that trailer and not making it and getting stuck half way, its fine, still drives today and still cops and absolute thrashing when i have the chance to drive it

Found about 200 cars in vic on carsales.com.au 0 < $1500 mark just don't know what's good and what's not

Edit: FWD, RWD, AWD, doesn't really bother me as long as it's cheap and economic.

4cyl, either toyota or nissan will do the trick. have a look at camry's (late 80's, early 90's). there are truckloads of them at wrecking yards, so no problems finding parts for them.

also consider a 6 on LPG

nothin beats a banged up kingswood/falcon on gas or to be a little more serious, just about any thing toyota; corolla, hilux, camry etc they will last ages and use barely any fuel. probably the sorta thing i would go for if i wasnt badgeist.

Laser TX3 I've owned 3 & done ridiculous mileage in the all & thrashed them far beyond what could be considered reasonable & they all just came back for more.
