Booming sound at low speed

My son has just picked up a 2011 Titanium TDCI wagon 81,000 km to drive back to Shepparton from Melbourne. He has phoned to say that there is a booming sound at low speed (around 10 km/hr. Any thoughts as to what it may be. It is a loud wow wow sound which to me sounds like a wheel rotation relating to wheel bearing in the right back wheel. Any thoughts as to what may be the cause.
