1034 was the number of fatalities the previous year. How does that stack up these days with the extra cars on the road now.

Exactly, and that's what is not being taken into account by the anti police/camera brigade. On top of this, there are also the accident that don't result in deaths that need to be factored in before anyone knocks what the authorities do.
