Default Re: The Koenigsegg Agera RS Engine

Swedish hypercar sets new unofficial record averaging 447km/h on closed US highway

Koenigsegg has once again proved it makes the world's fastest car by setting a new record with its Agera RS hypercar on a closed, 17km-stretch of highway in Nevada in the US.

Recording an incredible 447.2km/h (277.0mph) average on two closed runs, the Agera RS driven by factory driver, Niklas Lilja, briefly hit 457.9km/h (284.6mph) in the record attempt.

The road used, a highway from Las Vegas to Pahrump, was said to have a slight elevation meaning the Agera RS, that packs a mighty 865kW/1280Nm, was fractionally faster in one direction than the other, hence why an average was taken.

Despite the heroics, claimed to have taken numerous runs on just one set of Michelin tyres, the record was not independently verified by Guinness.

That means the 2010 record 431.0km/h (267.9mph) speed, set by a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, still officially stands.

Recently, Koenigsegg released a video of the same Agera RS recording a zero-400km/h-zero time of just 36.44 seconds that is said to prove the Swedish hypercar is an incredible 5.5 seconds quicker than a Bugatti Chrion.

It's not known if Koenigsegg is in the process of applying for Guinness verification.
