Everest v. Touareg

A family member who has recently returned to Oz for work and lifestyle reasons is looking at buying a large SUV.
His idea was a MY16/17 Touareg on a lease plan, I threw up my hands in horror. Surely a new Everest in good spec would be a price competitor, plus it would come with full warranty, no rashed rims, scrubbed out tyres, kiddie vomit reside, overdue services and the general "abrasion" of an aspirational Sydney Mum's Taxi.
Or am I missing something here?
