Default Re: Repairing a very rusty fuel tank

mate,

Using one of the suggested products is the best option

I wouldn't restore and early car without using one of these products, it comes with a detergent cleaner, an acid for removing the rust and a sealer to coat the inside of the tank and fix any holes that appear when you take the rust out - it will handle holes up to about 5 mm - just use a bit of masking tape over the hole on the outside when you put the sealer in the tank - doing this process guarantees that nothing will get into the fuel system/engine....it is usually good for anything up to, but not including methanol - normal fuel and Avgas is fine - these products are used in aeroplanes - excellent outcome if you follow the process - if you don't get all the rust out using the process, don't worry the sealer will capture anything left in the tank and seal it in for life.....just be aware if your fuel line in the tank has a nylon filter on the end of the pipe - you have to knock it off the pipe...the sealer will seal it up as well if you don't
