Smile 2012 mondeo rear brake pad replacement

Hi guys, looking at replacing my rear brake pads, discs don't need doing.
I have been doing lots of research here and on YouTube.
My question is ,when winding in the piston, am I best to crack open the bleader, or take the lid off the master cylinder?
Seems to be a lot of debate about dirty fluid getting into the ABS unit if it is done by taking the master cylinder top off and pushing the fluid up through the lines.
I will also flush the fluid after doing the pads. Do I start at the left rear, then right rear, left front ,right front, like in the old days?
Any help greatly appreciated.
