Apparently in series 2 (can any series 2 owners confirm this), the gauge sweeps straight up to the 7 mark, and it's either there, or at 0, there is no in between, whereas series 1 sweeps back and forth just like a fuel gauge (I know from experience when my oil pressure was all over the shop).
The oil pressure sender on my AU2 Fairmont was leaking, I went to change it and noticed that it was only a switch. The guys in spare parts assured me id need the variable sender but when I showed them the car they agreed it was just a switch.

The gauge always reads about 3/4, I would assume if the gauge worked properly it would always read full with a switch installed not at 3/4
